Our client manufactures and services an extensive line of Shipboard mechanical, pneumatic and electronic control equipment and is now looking for a candidate to work in the areas of mechanical and pneumatic service and assembly, both in house and on board ships.Previous experience and training that would likely be relevant include working as a millwright, mechanic, in metal equipment fabrication and assembly, HVAC repair and overhaul, pipefitting experience including precision copper and stainless steel tube bending and assembly, and any other mechanical / pneumatic / hydraulic assembly, repair and troubleshooting experience.The successful applicant should be a self-starting, intelligent, social person capable of working effectively alone or in a group with strong mechanical aptitude and an understanding of logic and control functions.Pay: $40.00-$50.00/hourPERSONNEL BASIC REQUIREMENTS:
  • Applicants may be required to operate the company vehicle and will need to maintain a class 5 drivers license with clear drivers abstract.
  • Applicants must supply their own CSA approved safety footware, in good condition, foruse in any areas of the shop or field service locations where such PPE is a requirement. Coveralls, hard hats, safety glasses and high visibility vests will be supplied by PMC as required.
  • Applicants must supply their own “mechanic’s type” hand tools that reasonably could be required to perform the duties for which they have been hired. Specialized tools and equipment for specific applications are available from PMC’s tool crib on a sign out/return basis.
  • Applicants should be able to work efficiently alone or with minimal supervision.
  • Applicants should be computer literate as regards email communication, printer/scanner operation and able to accurately file documentation produced in the appropriate folders.
  • Applicants should have either a phone or camera capable of producing and transmitting/downloading high quality pictures of any work performed or in process that may be required.
IN SHOP MANUFACTURING, ASSEMBLY, TESTING AND CALIBRATION
  • Applicants will be expected to have a good working knowledge of general manufacturing, assembly and testing procedures.
  • Applicants will be expected to be able to use existing assembly procedures, specification sheets and TSP’s to manufacture, assemble, test and calibrate PMC specific components.
  • Applicants will be expected to use existing templates to produce any required new documentation including producing and filing corrective actions, assembly and test procedures.
  • Applicants will be expected to be familiar with, or willing to become familiar with, any PMC sourced or manufactured devices or equipment that may require service and the test equipment needed for post service confirmation of operation. This includes pneumatic, hydraulic and electrical test equipment, devices and components.
  • Applicants must be able to read and understand relevant schematics, drawings or diagrams that may be required to complete their assigned tasks. They should also be able to identify errors or omissions in existing documentation, make changes to such documentation and forward change marked documentation to engineering for updates. This includes but is not limited to circuit issues, grammatical errors and dimensional inconsistencies.
Typical in shop tasks:
  • Assemble overhaul kits from discrete stock components
  • PMC product assembly and testing
  • Shipping of PMC products to customers
  • Component overhaul - Disassembly, inspection, identification of unusual wear or damage to major parts, installation of overhaul kit parts, reassembly, and testing, both in our facility and on-board ships.
  • Completion of inspection, test, and service reports
  • Working with the PMC purchasing personnel and PMC Machine Shop to ensure adequate stock levels of all required parts.
  • Participate in the repair and refit Estimation process by providing anticipated labour and parts suggestions to the Service Manager
  • Mechanical installation of PMC equipment on board ships, sometimes including making various kinds of flexible and ridged pipe, hose and tubing connections.
  • Testing, setup and troubleshooting of PMC mechanical, pneumatic and occasionally hydraulic systems on board ships
