- Tax Compliance & Accounting for Income Tax:
- Oversee completion of federal, international, state and local tax filings including all related analysis and support
- Oversee the preparation of income tax provision in accordance with ASC 740 and financial reporting disclosures
- Monitor legislative changes in tax laws that may impact tax positions, including tax accounting implications
- Ensure appropriate internal controls related to tax matters are in place and operating correctly, identify any gaps in internal controls and ensure remediation and formalization of tax policies and procedures
- Establish and maintain formal tax policies, practices and procedures to ensure compliance with US GAAP and tax regulations.
- Manage any tax audits, notices and enquiries received from domestic and foreign tax authorities
- Ensure compliance with global transfer pricing requirements
- Strategic Tax Planning:
- Design, develop and implement tax planning strategies for a global entity, including domestic and foreign operation
- Establish strategies to minimize tax expense and exposures with regard to federal, state, and foreign direct and indirect taxes, including the evaluation of sales tax obligations by state
- Manage tax related special projects, reports, schedules for senior management including transfer pricing studies and the preparation of tax
- Transforming Tax Function:
- Drive implementation of tax compliance systems and tools to ensure accuracy and efficiency of tax collection and remittance
- Actively manage relationships with third party tax advisors to optimize the relationships to efficiently balance in house vs outsourced tax support
- Leverage AI/Automation to optimize the operations of the Tax function
- Business Partnering: M&A, Tax Structuring, and All Activities with Tax Impacts:
- Establish deep business partner relationships across the organization to ensure company strategy and projects include a thorough review of tax consequences
- Manage all tax projects including M&A due diligence, tax impacts of new products and services, geographical expansion, and all tax studies
- Research and provide timely tax analysis on structures for projects and operations including analysis of relevant treaty implications were applicable.
- Liaise with legal and external tax advisors with respect to tax matters and strategies for new geographic or business expansion and M&A related activities including due diligence.
- Assist in the design and implementation of income and non-income tax savings strategies
- Subject Matter Expertise:
- Monitor changes in global tax legislation affecting SaaS and healthcare industries, and proactively assess implications for the company
- Respond to tax-related inquiries and provide technical tax guidance to internal stakeholders as needed.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA or CA license required.
- 10+ years of relevant tax experience, with a mix of public accounting and multinational corporate environments (experience in SaaS or healthcare sectors is a strong plus)
- Comprehensive understanding of domestic and international corporate tax concepts, including transfer pricing, indirect taxes (VAT/GST), international withholding tax and tax provisioning (ASC 740).
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the capacity to communicate complex tax issues clearly and effectively.
- Experience with Avalara or similar tax software including system implementation
- A collaborative team player, able to partner with internal and external contacts at all levels to drive efficiency and system improvement in tax and tax adjacent functions
- Masters of Taxation or equivalent
- Knowledgeable about tax advantages of various entity structures including medical professional corporations and international subsidiaries
- Proven ability to work independently with minimal oversight in a dynamic, virtual, or global setting
