For more information, visit .Responsibilities:
- Transports patients to designated areas of the hospital via wheelchair, stretcher, bed and escorts ambulatory patients as assigned.
- Visually monitors the condition of the patient and/or the proper functioning of the medical support devices during transport.
- Picks up and delivers materials from various areas of the hospital including STAT delivery items such as specimens, requisitions and medical surgical supplies.
- Delivers wheelchairs, stretchers and lifts for patient transport as well as various transport aids such as portable oxygen IV poles where required.
- Assists in lifting patients to and from the mode of transport under the direction of a member of the clinical staff or therapy/technical staff.
- Notify staff at delivery site of the arrival and location of the patient and/or material.
- Will be required to respond and assist as directed in the event of an emergency code situation.
- Apply hospital issued Personal Protective Equipment as directed to limit exposure to biomedical material
- Use safety footwear that falls under the Ontario Health and Safety Act as directed (Employees provided a set compensation yearly for safety footwear).
- Adhere to worker responsibilities as set out in the OH&S Act, hospital safety policies, and department/unit established procedures at all times.
- Must treat all staff, patients and visitors with courtesy, dignity and respect.
- Minimum of grade twelve (12) or equivalent.
- Must be able to meet the physical demands of the role with or without accommodation including; ability to push and pull 100lbs.
- Previous experience would be an asset.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal required
- Demonstrated reliable attendance, punctuality, availability and performance.
- Flexibility to work various shifts including evening, weekends and holidays as required.
