Job Code: 18829Status: Temporary Full-Time (up to 12 months)Location: Providence Care HospitalUnion: OPSEU 4104 ParamedicalWage: $37.24 - $39.93Posting Period: August 13, 2025 - August 19, 2025Under the direction of the Program Manager, the Recreation Therapist utilizes recreation to maximize independence, promote an optimal leisure lifestyle and enhance quality of life for referred clients. Services include recreation and leisure assessment, intervention, and evaluation to support skill development and/or maintenance of clients’ therapeutic recreation domains. As an interprofessional team member, the Recreation Therapist participates in profession-specific and interprofessional activities that support a recovery/client-centered care delivery model and that contribute to operational efficiency, program development, and professional growth. The Recreation Therapist will practice in accordance with Providence Care’s Vision, Mission, Ethics and Values, operational policies and procedures, and standards of practice as set out by Therapeutic Recreation Ontario (TRO).Skills and Qualifications Required:
  • Degree or Diploma in Recreation and Leisure Services with a focus in Therapeutic Recreation
  • Member of Therapeutic Recreation Ontario
  • Eligible for Registration with Therapeutic Recreation Ontario or Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist, preferred
  • Experience in an array of services to adults in a variety of age groups, which include community and hospital settings preferred (e,g. mental health, dual diagnosis, dementia, adult acquired disability) ability to incorporate concepts into therapeutic participation in recreation programs, an asset
  • Current CPR and First Aid certification
  • Experience in Microsoft Suite of products (i.e. Word, Power Point, Outlook, Publisher)
Position Responsibilities:
  • Screens referrals for appropriateness
  • Identifies information necessary to be collected during the therapeutic recreation assessment (e.g. directly from the client, the Personal Health Information record, or the interprofessional team)
  • Develops an intervention plan based on the client’s goals and assessment results; intervention plans can include both one-on-one interventions as well as group programs
  • Contributes to the overall team-based care plan
  • Documents assessment findings, progress and outcomes in accordance to the policies and procedures of Providence Care and the relevant association
  • Ensures informed consent is obtained for assessment, treatment and disclosure or release of personal health information according to organizational policies and procedures
  • Designs group programs to meet the client needs within a particular service or program
  • Utilizes a client-centered approach when developing group programs
  • Completes workload measurement documentation according to guidelines
  • Seeks, supports, and develops appropriate partnerships with a range of community service providers
  • Facilitates connections with community services needed for transition to and/or independent participation within the community of the client, where appropriate
  • Supervises and evaluates Therapeutic Recreation students as assigned
