Position SummaryVCC (Vancouver Community College) Continuing Studies is seeking instructors with industry and teaching experience to teach in the part-time Nursing Professional Development program area. Successful candidates will be offered a term contract position, with opportunities for continued instructional assignments. This position is responsible for teaching students in an assigned field of study using a diverse set of instruction methods and tools. The position prepares teaching materials, provides assessments of students' progress, and develops lesson plans/syllabi. It ensures the proper stewardship of college facilities, equipment, and other inventories. The position is also responsible for upholding the College's policies and procedures and for participating in meetings and events and on committees. Candidates must have an advanced knowledge and industry expertise in all areas related to Peripheral Intravenous Therapy in Acute Settings.
Duties & Responsibilities * Utilize industry knowledge to teach and engage students using a diverse and systematic plan of lectures, presentations, demonstrations, discussion groups, laboratory work, seminars, case studies, and independent or group projects.
- Develop curriculum, prepare teaching materials, including audio-visual and web-related materials, where appropriate.
- Effectively communicate with students, in a group or individual setting, using both visual techniques and verbal communication.
- Prepare, administers, and mark papers, tests, exams, and other assessments to monitor and evaluate students' progress. Evaluate students' progress and provide detailed feedback on student performance.
- Maintain effective stewardship of classroom facilities, equipment, materials, software, and tools.
- Adhere to VCC policies and procedures, including being available to students, and maintaining confidentiality of students and information.
- Participate in departmental and college meetings and events and consult with other college departments as needed.
- Create a positive learning environment by consistently demonstrating preparedness for class, by motivating students to accomplish educational and personal goals and by providing the opportunity to receive and act on student feedback.
- Perform other related duties as required.
- Current and active RN registration with the British Columbia College of Nurses & Midwives (BCCNM).
- Master's degree in appropriate discipline from an accredited university.
- Minimum three years of recent industry experience specializing in Peripheral Intravenous Therapy (within the last 5 years).
- Minimum 2 years classroom and clinical teaching experience in a similar course or related subject in a post-secondary institution.
- Proven commitment to safe and ethical practice in both industry and classroom settings.
- Verifiable understanding of all BC College of Nurses and Midwives practice standards and scope of practice.
- Demonstrated skills and experience using a variety of instructional approaches and strategies to accommodate the learning needs of students.
- Experience designing and developing curriculum for online and/or classroom delivery. · Excellent command of written and spoken English.
- Evidence of commitment to team and personal professional growth.
- Provincial Instructor's Diploma (completed or in progress) or equivalent teaching certification.
