Volunteer PositionBiotechnology DSC Members (positions below)Applications will remain open until September 12th at 4PM, 2024.Time Commitment8-month term from September, 2024 to April 30th, 2025.   • Secretary (1)
  • Take meeting minutes during weekly DSC meetings
  • Assist in booking rooms and/or create zoom links for meetings and events
  • Assist other council members in creating schedules for events
  • Create and oversee a google form where students may provide feedback about the program
  • Undergraduate Representatives (2)
  • Acts as a liaison between the DSC and other committees (UGSC, BGSC, I-EDIAA, etc)
  • Staying up to date on issues affecting the DSC and student experience
  • Advocating for the undergraduate biotechnology students within the department
  • Year Representatives (4)
  • Responsible for acting as a direct resource for students in Biotechnology
  • Make important announcements/ask professors to promote events in class
  • Use social media to promote events within the department
  • Coordinating study nights
  • Academic Coordinators (3)
  • Responsible for planning and running academic-catered events (Careers in BTEC, Research Opportunities, 4th year seminar)
  • Collaborate with your team to plan the logistics of each event
  • Work with Undergraduate Representatives to connect with professors/grad students for our events
  • Social Coordinators (3)
  • Responsible for the logistics of planning and running social events (i.e. Crops with Profs, Formal)
  • In charge of planning and running the joint Biology Formal with members of the Biology DSC
  • Marketing Coordinators (3)
  • Responsible for creating event graphics
  • In charge of various event promotions on social media channels
  • Proficient with graphic creation software
  • Brainstorm & execute social media presence for engagement, such as creating Instagram reels, stories, memes, etc.
  • Fundraising Coordinator (2)
  • Responsible for planning and running fundraising initiatives (Merch sale, Headshot Fundraiser, Sticker sale)
  • In charge of attracting sponsors for our various events
  • Work with year reps and marketing to promote events
  • I-EDIAA Representative
  • Serve as a representative and advocate for Inclusion, Equity, Diversity, Indigeneity, Anti-Racism, and Accessibility within the Biotechnology program.
  • Take over the DSC social media once a week to highlight diversity in STEM and Biotechnology (e.g., sharing spotlights, resources, events, or personal stories).
  • Be a point of contact for students seeking support or wanting to share ideas on improving inclusivity in the program.
  • Help plan or promote events and initiatives that foster a welcoming and equitable environment for all Biotech students.
