Description :ROLE OVERVIEWReporting to the Manager, Communications, the French Language Specialist plays a key role in delivering clear, accurate, and culturally appropriate bilingual communications to support Assiniboine Credit Union/ Caisse Assiniboine (ACU)’s commitment to rural and agricultural communities, francophone services, values-based banking and ACU’s triple bottom line accountability to people, planet, and prosperity. This role is responsible for translating, reviewing, and adapting a variety of content—including financial, legal, governance, marketing, and member-facing materials—ensuring clarity, compliance, and consistency in French-language communication. The Specialist works closely with internal stakeholders to uphold brand integrity and enhance the member experience in both official languages.KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
  • Translate written content from English to French (and occasionally French to English), including marketing campaigns, website content, legal disclosures, policy documents, internal communications, and financial reports.
  • Ensure translated materials align with ACU’s brand voice, values, and regulatory requirements, while being culturally sensitive and appropriate for Francophone audiences.
  • Review and edit translations for accuracy, tone, grammar, and clarity.
  • Collaborate with departments including Marketing, Governance, People Solutions, and Finance to understand context and ensure message consistency across all platforms.
  • Maintain and evolve ACU’s French language standards, glossaries, and style guides to ensure consistent terminology and tone.
  • Support the development and implementation of bilingual communications strategies.
  • Work with project managers and external translation vendors as needed to meet deadlines and quality standards.
  • Provide linguistic expertise on campaigns, internal messaging, and public-facing content to ensure clarity and inclusivity.
QUALIFICATIONSEducation and experience:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Translation, French Language Studies, Communications, or a related field or equivalent experience.
  • Certification from a recognized translation body (e.g., ATIO, CTINB, or Ordre des traducteurs du Québec) is an asset.
  • 3–5 years of professional translation experience, preferably in a regulated, financial services, or public sector environment.
Key Occupational Skills:
  • Bilingual Proficiency: Demonstrated fluency in both French and English, with a deep understanding of grammar, syntax, idiomatic expressions, and language structure in both languages.
  • Strong Writing and Editing: Ability to produce clear, accurate, and well-structured content with meticulous attention to spelling, punctuation, and grammar in both languages.
  • Cultural Competence: Sensitivity to cultural nuances and regional variations to ensure translations are contextually appropriate and effective.
  • Subject Matter Knowledge: Familiarity with specialized terminology in areas such as finance, governance, and marketing; ability to research unfamiliar concepts to ensure accurate and meaningful translations.
  • Quality Control: Skilled in proofreading and editing to ensure linguistic accuracy, consistency, and adherence to organizational style guides; experience with CAT (Computer-Assisted Translation) tools is an asset.
  • Time Management: Capable of managing multiple translation projects and meeting tight deadlines while maintaining high standards of quality and accuracy.
  • Confidentiality and Ethics: Committed to maintaining the confidentiality and integrity of sensitive or proprietary information.
  • Collaborative Communication: Effective at working with internal teams and stakeholders to clarify context and intent, and open to feedback to continuously improve translation quality.
Location & Work EnvironmentThis position is anticipated to be fully remote or hybrid role. Employees on a hybrid work arrangement will be required to be in-office at least one day each week. Attendance at in person meeting would be an expectation irrespective of the work arrangement.
