We are seeking a competent, sensitive and experienced companion for our 90 year old grandmother. At present she is physically quite well and independent but is unfortunately experiencing symptoms of depression and early on-set dementia in the form of forgetfulness and repetition of phrases or questions. As she is alone in the family home for a set amount of hours during the work week, we would like to find the right caregiver to come in and provide companionship and monitoring specifically over the midday/lunch period (10-1pm or 11-2pm). Ideally, we wish to have a caregiver to come in and build a rapport with our grandmother to ensure she is: (i) engaging in conversation and stimulated mentally (ii) taking her prescribed medication (iii) actually eating a meal (that simply needs to be heated up) (iv) engaging in activities (ex. playing cards etc) Our grandmother does speak very good English but is most comfortable speaking Italian, has a good sense of humour and is fundamentally a social person. Increased isolation and the loss of our grandfather a few years ago has led to increased depressive symptoms including: frequent crying, loss of appetite and loss of motivation regarding self-care and social activities. Overall, we are seeking someone that is culturally aware and understanding of the situation to create a new routine and help improve her day to day while providing peace of mind for those of us working outside of the home during the day.
