
2nd Class Operating Engineer – Training & Compliance

- Supervise and participate in the operation and maintenance of high-pressure boilers, turbines, compressors, chillers, and auxiliary systems.
- Monitor equipment performance and implement corrective actions as needed.
- Ensure safe work practices and compliance with Occupational Health & Safety Act (OHSA) and TSSA regulation
- Maintain plant operations within TSSA regulations for a 1st Class plant.
- Prepare for and coordinate internal and external inspections and audits (TSSA, ESA, etc.).
- Ensure proper documentation and reporting of plant performance, maintenance, and compliance records.
- Develop and maintain a training program for Operating Engineers, including onboarding and upgrade training.
- Conduct technical and procedural training sessions in alignment with SOPEEC guidelines.
- Track certification status and ongoing training requirements of plant personnel.
- Mentor junior engineers and trainees pursuing 3rd or 4th Class certifications
- Maintain accurate training logs, equipment logs, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and emergency response protocols.
- Assist in the development and review of operational and safety policies.
- Generate compliance reports and support internal audits. Skills and Qualifications
- Required Certification: Valid 2nd Class Operating Engineer Certificate issued by TSSA (Ontario).
- Experience: Minimum 5–7 years of progressive experience in power plant or utility operations; Previous experience in a training or supervisory capacity preferred.
- Other Requirements: Strong understanding of TSSA, CSA, OSHA, and applicable codes and standards. Excellent communication, leadership, and organizational skills. Proficiency in using plant control systems, DCS.
