
Senior Building Performance Consultant

- Lead whole building performance modelling and evaluation including design options analysis, ASHRAE 90.1/NECB/TGS energy modelling, daylight simulations, parametric energy modelling, and embodied carbon analysis.
- Model net zero buildings together with supporting clients on a range of decarbonization strategies to meet their sustainability goals.
- Perform high level energy analysis for a campus or buildings portfolio using energy planning tools and AI-driven analytics
- Review of mechanical drawings, mechanical equipment submittals, electrical drawings, and/or architectural drawings/specifications against high performance goals and sustainability certification criteria related to building performance
- Preparing and presenting results and professional recommendations to clients and teams
- Write technical reports communicating certification, energy modelling findings, and design recommendations for achieving sustainability/energy targets.
- Conduct research and technical analysis for projects and report on findings.
- Collaborating with disciplinary teams to undertake analysis and provide feedback.
- Support energy planning, resiliency, and other projects relating to high performance buildings and communities.
- Work with the Sustainability Consultant and project team to develop sustainability strategies to meet project's sustainability target.
- Support to facilitate submissions to green building certification systems.
- Manage complex projects, ensuring timely delivery while balancing company and client priorities.
- Mentor team members and educating junior team members on building performance services, including energy modeling and sustainable design principles
- Bachelor's degree required in Engineering, Building Sciences, Architecture, or a related field
- Minimum 6 years of experience in the building industry, including at least 4 years specializing in building energy performance modeling.
- Proficient in IES-VE energy simulation software.
- Demonstrated technical expertise in undertaking detailed and technical building energy modelling from inception to completion including quality assurance and quality control (QA/QC).
- Proficiency with other energy simulation software (e.g. EnergyPlus, Energy Pro, eQuest, DesignBuilder, OpenStudio, Trane Trace)
- Masters' degree preferred in engineering, planning, or a sustainability-related field.
- Experience in conducting ASHRAE Level 1-3 energy audits to assess building systems, identify energy-saving opportunities, and prepare detailed reports with actionable recommendations, aligning with Canadian codes and green building certifications.
- Experience developing decarbonization transition plans, including carbon footprint assessments, renewable energy integration, and strategic roadmaps to achieve net-zero goals, aligned with certifications like CaGBC Zero Carbon Standard.
- Conduct on-site audits, data gathering, and measurement & verification (M&V) assignments.
- Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) license.
- Develop high level renewable energy feasibility studies.
- Work across sectors (federal, laboratory, industrial, transit, education, civic, institutional), supporting performance certification and incentive submissions.
- Experience with parametric energy modelling workflows (e.g., Dynamo, Grasshopper, JePlus).
- Knowledge of green building rating systems (e.g., LEED, CaGBC Zero Carbon Standard, Passive House) processes and relevant tasks related to building performance.
- Solid experience of relevant energy codes and standards: e.g., ASHRAE 90.1, NECB, SB-10, Zero Carbon Building Standard, ASHRAE 62.1).
- Experience in zero carbon building technologies.
- Knowledge and experience using Microsoft Office Suite, and in particular, Excel for data analytics.
- Experience in other building performance analysis tools (e.g., RETScreen, Ladybug, Diva, WUFI, Tally, Cove, Insight 360, Therm).
- Experience in embodied carbon calculations, life-cycle assessments, and LCA software (e.g., Athena, OneClick LCA).
- Experience with life-cycle cost analysis (LCCA) calculations.
- Experience in building design software such as Revit, Rhino, AutoCAD, etc.
- Additional certifications/licenses (e.g., ASHRAE BEMP, CEM, LEED AP, WELL AP, ENV SP, CPHD)
- Knowledge of any programming languages (Python, R, C++, etc.)
- Strong project management skills for leading multi-disciplinary teams and managing complex projects.
- Team-oriented and able to work in a fast-paced environment with minimal supervision.
- Ability to communicate problems clearly and simply to clients, engineers, and architects.
- Strong problem solving, analytical, and research skills.
- Ability to balance various project/company responsibilities and deadlines, while maintaining professionalism and quality.
