- Report to the aerodrome supervisor.
- Execute a work program that follows Transport Canada regulatory requirements and industry best practices regarding emergency response, wildlife management, winter maintenance, and the operation of all aerodrome maintenance equipment (loaders/grader/snow blower/etc).
- Complete summer and winter maintenance that requires using the airport’s loader, grader, snow blower, and single and tandem axle trucks.
- Perform various tasks that require the use of hand tools and power tools, including chainsaws.
- Perform minor maintenance on chainsaws and other tools (as needed).
- Perform minor and preventative maintenance on airfield electrical systems, including tasks to meet preventative maintenance requirements for the job site.
- Participate in airport training and safety programs.
- Perform minor maintenance on airfield equipment in a safe and professional manner.
- Inspect the airfield and runway on a regular basis.
- Conduct wildlife inspections and perform wildlife control duties.
- Perform duties associated with the safety management system.
- Assist with emergency responses and security.
- Provide aerodrome advisory services to air traffic.
- Escort persons and vehicles airside.
- Undertake below-wing activities, such as aircraft marshalling, aircraft ground handling, baggage and cargo handling, and aircraft de-icing.
- Grade 12 secondary school education
- Criminal record check
- Heavy Equipment operation and maintenance knowledge (421A/310T is an asset)
- Written and verbal communication skills (to respond to customers and to interpret instructions and procedural manuals)
- Computer skills
- Ability to analyze situations and solve problems effectively
- Ability to work independently or as part of a team
- Ability to lift up to 30 kg. and work standing for an extended period of time
- Valid DZ license and clean driver’s abstract
- Valid AZ license
- Heavy equipment operator’s certificate
- General construction skills
- Education in aviation
- An aeronautical radio license (ROC-A)
- A pilot’s license
- Level 2 aviation management course or equivalent experience
- This position involves a 28 day cycle of 14 days on site, and 14 days off.
- The incumbent will commute to Timmins, ON, or Cochrane, ON, where transportation to Detour Lake Mine will be provided.
- Excellent accommodation and meals are provided at Detour Lake Mine during the work period.
- An annual clothing and boot allowance is provided.
- Winter hours may vary based on snowfall.
