You love the idea of spotlighting the organization's stories on the world stage. You're comfortable providing communications counsel to various business partners and leaders across the organization - taking them through a strategic planning process to help uncover the purpose and goals of any given initiative before jumping into tactics.As an essential member of the communications team, you will work as an in-house journalist and content strategist to develop and execute communications plans and strategic messages that support the organization's communications objectives and campaigns.Note: This position qualifies for an optional hybrid work schedule after 90 days of onsite work and onboarding. Employee will be subject to the terms of the Flexible Work Policy Agreement.What you'll do
  • Write press releases and announcements about company news, milestones and strategic initiatives that earn coverage and reach audiences across the company's website, social media channels and the digital landscape;
  • Manage Seaspan's websites and social media channels including creating, editing and publishing content;
  • Nurture and maintain relationships with the media,: responding to media inquiries, arranging media interviews and providing briefing notes for spokespeople;
  • Develop strategic messaging frameworks, backgrounders, fact sheets and presentations for a broad audience;
  • Stay up to date with industry current events and industry trends and advise on industry best practices and strategies;
  • Plan, execute and monitor campaigns;
  • Provide on-the-ground support during external events, photo shoots and media visits;
  • Use analytical tools to measure, monitor and report on media coverage and engagement with Seaspan content.
What you'll bring
  • A post-secondary degree in journalism, communications, public relations or a related field.
  • A minimum of five to seven years of related experience in journalism or a public relations/communications role including progressive experience and responsibility in strategic communications.
  • Proven experience in media relations and a strong ability to build and maintain relationships with journalists and influencers.
  • Deep understanding of traditional, digital and emerging media platforms (i.e. social media), analytical tools and social media best practices
  • Knowledge of photo/video editing (e.g. Photoshop, Premier) and design tools (e.g. Indesign, Illustrator) is preferred.
  • Flexibility to support outside regular business hours, including early morning, evenings or weekends.

The estimated salary for this position is $84,600 - $103,400. In determining final salary, Seaspan considers many factors including the successful Candidate's skills and experience as well as position location and internal equity.
