
Lead Underground Heavy Duty Mechanic

- Perform scheduled preventative maintenance (PMs) as outlined through work orders for underground mobile equipment
- Support the Underground Maintenance Supervisor by helping coordinate daily maintenance priorities and acting in their absence when required.
- Identify and organize necessary parts, tools, and materials in advance of maintenance activities.
- Perform root cause analysis of equipment failures and recommend corrective actions.
- Respond to equipment breakdowns promptly and effectively to minimize equipment downtime.
- Utilize Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) software (e.g., SAP) to track work orders, log equipment history, and manage parts usage.
- Collaborate with supervisors, planners, and other departments to develop and execute daily, weekly, and monthly maintenance plans.
- Complete and review documentation, including shift reports, inspection records, work orders, and safety documentation.
- Promote and enforce safe work practices and mine safety procedures.
- Provide on-the-job mentorship and guidance to mechanics and apprentices, supporting skills development and safe work practices.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment through consistent housekeeping and equipment organization.
- Perform other related duties assigned in support of maintenance operations.
- Journeyperson certification in Heavy Duty Equipment Mechanics (Certificate of Qualification - Red Seal or equivalent) is required.
- Grade 12 diploma or equivalent is required.
- Underground Common Core is preferred.
- Minimum 5 years of underground mechanical experience, including exposure to a variety of mobile mining equipment.
- Proven leadership ability with a focus on communication, mentorship, and team development.
- Strong mechanical troubleshooting skills with experience on underground mobile equipment.
- Proven leadership ability with excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Demonstrated experience with Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) such as SAP, for work tracking and maintenance planning.
- Commitment to safety and a track record of enforcing safe work practices.
- Strong organizational and time management skills with attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Capable of making decisions under pressure and effectively guiding others.
- Physically fit and capable of working in confined spaces and varying underground conditions, including lifting up to 50 lbs, climbing ladders, and performing physically demanding tasks.
- Must be able to wear all required personal protective equipment (PPE) and comply with mine site safety protocols.
