The organization has built a strong reputation for quality, collaboration, and long-term client partnerships across sectors such as industrial, commercial, aviation, and recreational infrastructure.As the business continues to grow, they are seeking a Controller to lead the finance function and partner closely with operations to support project performance and strategic expansion.The OpportunityThis is an exciting opportunity for a hands-on, ambitious finance leader to step into a key role within a growing construction organization.The ideal candidate is hungry, entrepreneurial, and solutions-oriented — a leader who enjoys rolling up their sleeves, building processes, mentoring a team, and bringing forward new ideas to improve financial operations.This role will work closely with senior leadership and operations to help drive project profitability, financial discipline, and long-term business growth.Key Responsibilities
- Lead the full-cycle accounting and financial reporting process including month-end, year-end, and financial statement preparation.
- Oversee construction accounting processes, including job costing, work-in-progress (WIP) reporting, and percentage-of-completion accounting.
- Partner closely with project managers and operational leaders to monitor project financial performance and support decision-making.
- Develop and enhance financial processes, internal controls, and reporting frameworks to support operational efficiency.
- Lead, mentor, and develop the accounting team while fostering a strong performance-driven culture.
- Prepare budgets, forecasts, and financial analysis to support strategic planning.
- Manage relationships with external auditors, lenders, and advisors.
- Provide financial insight and recommendations to senior leadership on profitability, cost management, and growth initiatives.
- CPA designation (CA preferred)
- Background in public accounting (Big 4 or mid-sized firm preferred)
- Construction industry experience required, including job costing and project accounting
- Proven leadership capability with experience mentoring or managing staff
- Highly hands-on and comfortable working in a fast-paced operational environment
- Strong communication and business partnering skills
- Entrepreneurial mindset with a desire to grow with the business and make a meaningful impact
