This position is ideal for individuals who thrive in a dynamic, detail-oriented setting and are looking to gain hands-on experience in logistics, inventory, and sample handling. You’ll play a key role in ensuring high-quality support for analytical testing by maintaining smooth, efficient, and organized sample receiving and shipping processes.Specific Responsibilities:The Production Assistant works closely with lab and logistics teams to support the timely and accurate handling of environmental samples and supplies. Tasks include, but are not limited to:Client & Sample ReceivingWelcome and assist clients and couriers in the sample receiving areaReceive incoming samples and coolersUnpack and layout samples in the order of the submission, ensuring accurate processingVerify labels for accuracy and completenessEnsure the sample receiving area is clean, organized, and presentable at all timesClean and manage coolers after sample loginFollow internal Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and analytical quality proceduresDelivery Management & ShippingPrepare bottle orders and sample preservatives for shipping to clientsReview and double-check bottle orders prepared by others for accuracy and completenessPackage and ship samples using appropriate couriers and protocolsOrganize, prioritize, and track bottle and sample shipments to ensure timely deliveryProcess return shipments of laboratory suppliesReceive incoming shipments and distribute supplies to appropriate departmentsInventory & SuppliesTake weekly stock counts of sample bottles and laboratory shipping suppliesMaintain organized and accurate inventory of general lab and shipping materialsEnsure proper restocking and storage of inventory itemsFacility & Operations SupportAssist with basic building maintenance tasks as neededObserve and follow all ALS safety policies and regulationsMaintain a clean and safe work environmentSupport other departments as needed and perform other duties as assigned by the Lab ManagerRequired Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:Strong English communication skills (speaking, listening, reading, and writing)Ability to use Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) at a basic levelBasic computer literacy for data entry and trackingStrong attention to detail and accuracy in a fast-paced, repetitive environmentGood organizational skills and ability to meet tight deadlines (e.g., Turnaround Times and holding requirements)Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively with othersA strong work ethic with flexibility to take on various support tasks as neededClient-focused mindset with a commitment to quality and efficiencyPhysical Demands:Ability to lift up to 50 lbs (23 kg) and carry items over short distancesFrequent walking, bending, kneeling, and standing for extended periodsManual dexterity to complete intricate and repetitive tasks efficientlyComfortable wearing PPE such as gloves, dust masks, and other safety gear when requiredPotential exposure to unpleasant odors or cool environments (from sample storage)Working at ALSThe ALS team is a diverse and dedicated community united by our passion to make a difference in the world.Our values are important to us, and shape how we work, how we treat each other and how we recognise excellence.At ALS, you’ll be supported to develop new skills and reach your full potential.
