Under the direction of the immediate supervisor, performs clinical laboratory tests and analyses. Receives patients. Collects and processes samples. Interprets and communicates test results to others. Maintains equipment. Maintains records.Major Duties and Responsibilities:
- Performs laboratory tests and analyses such as phlebotomy, urinalysis, microscopy
- Receives and registers patients and explains laboratory test procedures and sample collection instructions.
- Collects and processes various samples; reviews results.
- Is responsible for the organization, maintenance and integrity of phlebotomy equipment, as well as maintaining records.
- Reviews and distributes specified results to medical professionals (urgent; + gram stain, + H.Pylori, + STI, etc)
- Ensures compliance with safety regulations in the use of equipment (EHS & OHS)
- Maintains phlebotomy & laboratory equipment and informs supervisor if repairs are needed. Maintains phlebotomy inventory. Recommends to immediate supervisor equipment and material for purchase.
- Keeps abreast of new developments in the field to update skills and knowledge.
- Member of the Ordre Professionnel des Technologistes Médicaux du Québec (OPTMQ).
- Knowledge of medical terminology and demonstrated communication skills.
- Must be customer focused and service oriented, which includes but is not limited to being approachable, responsive, attentive and helpful.
- Assists all clients with a positive attitude, tact and diplomacy while maintaining a professional manner and competence at all times.
- Demonstrated ability to clearly receive, retain and transmit information with a proven ability to communicate clearly and effectively at all levels.
- Demonstrated ability to uphold the meticulous cleanliness of a medical laboratory.
- Must be familiar with the sterilization process and comfortable sterilizing medical instruments.

- Demonstrated ability to take initiative, problem-solve and organize work within area of responsibility.
- Proven ability to be proactive and devote full attention to clientele.
- Strong organizational skills with ability to multi-task, prioritize and work under pressure to meet multiple deadlines in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
- Proven discretion in dealing with confidential information.
- Demonstrated ability to explain protocols to patients and obtain informed consent.
- Must be accurate and possess superior attention to detail with a proven ability to verify work.
- Proven ability to lift and carry weights of up to 40 pounds.
- Demonstrated ease with technological applications with a proven ability to work in a PC environment using MS Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook, MS Teams, Confluence/Jira.
- Demonstrated ability to work with clinical and administrative information systems such as Medesync is a very strong asset.
- English, spoken and written. French, spoken and read.
