- Preparing quantities and cost estimates at concept and schematic design stages.
- Preparing detailed quantity take-offs and cost estimates from the early design development stages to tender and construction-ready architectural, structural, and civil works drawings and specifications.
- Performing detailed review of contract specifications and drawings to identify errors, discrepancies and/or ambiguities which may impact estimate accuracy.
- Preparing a quantity variance report at various stages of cost planning and for bid analysis when required.
- Assisting in value engineering assignments.
- Completing peer reviews of external estimates and budgets and making recommendations as to format and accuracy.
- Supporting commercial and project management teams with cost analysis for delay claims and Change Order Requests.
- Maintaining current construction cost information using a combination of historical costs, market research, and construction cost indices.
- Background education / qualifications in a construction technology, architectural, structural, or civil engineering field.
- Bachelor's degree in quantity surveying and /or registration and professional designation with a recognized organization such as the CIQS or RICS.
- 10 years of relevant experience in a consulting firm and/or general contracting organization where substantial take-off and pricing from historic data or first-principles was required.
- Must be computer literate and be comfortable with electronic measurement and estimate preparation using applications such as On-Screen Takeoff, RIB CostX, or equal. Familiarity with the extraction of quantities from BIM models is also required.
- Must be experienced with calculation and application of General Conditions and General Requirements allowances, contingency, and escalation within cost plans and estimates.
