Labourer

• Install water, sewer and storm sewer mains, fire hydrants and valves, including digging and filling holes and trenches
• Repair manholes, catch basins, drains, storm sewers and culverts
• Install accessories for manholes, connections and trench backfill

• Clear snow and spread salt and sand on public roads
• Prepare roads for marking
• Direct traffic as a flagman
• Communicate information on road conditions
• Assist with measuring and alignment work
• Install and maintain traffic signs

• Perform basic maintenance and cleaning of equipment and facilities
• Prepare land, tools and materials for construction work
• Participate in earthwork and landscaping projects
• Operate heavy machinery
• Use appropriate electrical and manual equipment in the performance of duties
• Perform all other related tasks

• High school diploma or equivalent

• Minimum Class 3E (including air brakes)

• Street sweeper
• Heavy-duty truck (tandem) for salt and/or materials transport
• Loader with bucket
• Backhoe loader (complete)
• Snow removal loader
• One-man snowplow (truck)
• Sewer cleaner
• Grader
• Versatile tractor
• Sidewalk tractor
• Versatile tractor with Normand snowblower

• Training in the use of heavy machinery (asset)
• Additional training may be required based on operational needs
• Passing mark, within two (2) years, on the City’s exam that tests the ability to operate a Vohl excavator and snowblower

• Two (2) years of relevant experience in water and sewer system construction, and a working knowledge of the principles of construction and repair of water and sewer mains, fire hydrants, valves, accessories, manholes, lateral services and others used in municipal water and sewer systems
• Experience operating an excavator and a Vohl snowblower (asset)

• Fluent spoken and written French and English

• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
