- Perform structural analysis, seismic qualification and assessment, structural design, and ageing management.
- Prepare engineering design calculations for structural systems involving steel, reinforced concrete and masonry and prepare design documents and compile engineering packages.
- Adhere to applicable code, standard and regulatory requirements.
- Analyze structural systems and elements as required using Analysis Software programs; Assist in timely and quality project delivery.
- Assist Sr. Engineers in day-to-day engineering activities and coordination.
- Play assigned role in the project(s).
- Develop conceptual design, preliminary design and detailed design.
- Prepare technical specification documents.
- Ensure the quality and consistency, accuracy, and neatness of engineering deliverables.
- Apply sound engineering principles to assigned engineering activities.
- Compliance with applicable QA procedures and being responsible for producing quality work.
- Accountable for the delivering all engineering deliverables/task to achieve project objectives within specified timelines and budgets.
- Perform walk-downs and inspections.
- Assist the Team Lead for work plans and deliverables and ensure adequacy of scopes, budgets and schedules.
- Provide technical instructions to Junior staff or designers to develop engineering documentation.
- Review and comment on the work performed by the others to ensure accuracy, completeness and quality of technical information and design documentation.
- Check the work performed meets the quality requirements in accordance with Company QA programs and manuals.
- Perform plant walkdowns as and if required in support of design requirements definition and detailed engineering of design modifications.
- Provide engineering input and support to Field Engineering groups.
- Obtain inputs as required from plant commissioning, operations, and maintenance personnel and client engineering and scientific specialists in interfacing disciplines.
- Prepare engineering design calculations for structural systems involving steel, reinforced concrete and masonry elements as per the relevant CSA Standards and applicable codes.
- Analyze structural systems and elements as required using ANSYS, SAP2000, STAAD Pro, SSASI and other structural programs; and
- Participate in formal engineering design and other reviews as may be mandated for the design changes in question.
- Civil Engineering degree from an accredited University with 8-12 years of structural analysis and design experience in steel and concrete structures.
- Master degree and above is an asset.
- Deep and thorough understanding of structural engineering gained through a combination of design-office and site experience.
- Thorough knowledge of standard Codes and standards used in Civil/Structural engineering.
- Thorough knowledge of use of at least one Analysis software commonly used in Civil/Structural engineering such as StaadPro, SAP2000, ETABS, SAFE, etc.
- Thorough knowledge of Microsoft office and Mathcad.
- Adequate knowledge of established Nuclear QA guidelines, procedures and practices is preferable.
- Adequate knowledge of applicable Nuclear safety codes and regulations is an asset.
- Licensed in a professional engineering organization recognized in Canada; preferably registered as a Professional Engineer in the Province of Ontario.
- Sound knowledge of Civil/Structural Engineering principles.
- Knowledge of modification process of Nuclear Power Plant; ECC process or similar is an asset.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Experience working collaboratively in a dynamic team-oriented environment.
- Must undertake assigned engineering work independently.
- Must be willing to work in multiple tasks/projects.
- Must have excellent problem-solving skills and analytical aptitude.
- Must have experience in working in a project environment.
- Must have good skills in time management and setting priorities.
- Must have good communication skills to coordinate team and interface with client.
- Must be able to demonstrate effective organizational skills.
- Must have working knowledge of NBCC, CSA and other applicable industry codes and standards.
- Self-motivated, and be able to seek practical solutions to engineering problems.
- Demonstrated good interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a multidisciplinary team environment.
- Ability to work in an ever-changing environment with conflicting priorities.
- Ability to manage to work effectively under tight schedules and budget.
- Eligible for Security Clearance through Public Works and Government Services Canada (PWGSC).
- Travel to client site is required.
