- Integrate environmental and energy programs into CBS's core strategy and daily operations through expert reporting, auditing, and compliance management. The manager oversees high-risk operational areas-including waste reduction and hazardous material control-while collaborating with Corporate Social Responsibility teams to mitigate ESG risks. By managing specialized contracts and driving organizational awareness, the position fosters a proactive culture of sustainability and ethical responsibility.
- Manage the national Radiation and Biological Safety (RBS) programs, ensuring all activities protect personnel and products while meeting strict legislative requirements. Key duties include securing necessary licenses, developing comprehensive safety protocols, and overseeing rigorous inspections and audits. The manager also handles complex internal and external reporting to regulators and executive safety officers, while facilitating essential training to ensure employees are equipped to manage radiation and biological hazards safely.
- Provide comprehensive leadership for the Environment, Energy, and Radiation Safety teams, overseeing the entire talent lifecycle from recruitment to performance assessment. The manager is responsible for optimizing team effectiveness by aligning workloads, setting clear expectations, and facilitating professional development to ensure both current operational success and long-term career growth.
- Completion of an advanced degree (master's) in a related field such as Environmental Management.
- At minimum, 7-10 years experience in Environmental Sustainability, Radiation or Biosafety, or similar practical experience.
- Radiation Safety Officer (RSO-1) certification or previous Radiation and Biological Safety experience is an asset.
- X-Ray Safety Officer (XSO-1) certification or previous X-ray experience is an asset.
- Knowledge of applicable environmental, energy, radiation and biological safety legislation is required.
- Successful completion of Trustworthiness, Reliability and Verification is required.
- A Science background is a requirement for this position.
- Demonstrated experience with program management and program implementation is required.
- Previous experience working within a GMP environment is an asset.

- This role will work in a hybrid environment with requirements to be onsite at a Canadian Blood Services location at least 40% of the time/2 days of the week.
- You will work Monday to Friday, 37.5 hours per week, 7.5 hours a day. Additional hours may be required depending on project requirements.
- Travel will be required for inspections, audits, meetings etc.
