At ALS, we encourage you to dream big.When you join us, you’ll be part of a global team harnessing the power of scientific testing and data-driven insights to build a healthier future.About the roleThe Assistant VP ALS Metallurgy Americas works with the VP Americas to establish and execute Metallurgy strategy across the Americas including the development and implementation of short term and long-term strategic plans to grow the business and ensure ROI. This is a developmental role with responsibility for the overall business performance for the region. This includes oversight for continuing to foster a strong culture that actively responds to client needs in a way that exceeds expectations while continuously improving the efficiency and effectiveness of operations, occupational health & safety, human resources and quality. The position will maintain the standard for responsible business practice and professional service delivery while producing the highest possible return to shareholders in every business environment.Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide direction to Operational Managers in the Americas operations to execute business strategies, define objectives and align resources to deliver on objectives;
  • Participate in business development through maintaining existing relationships and developing new relationships with potential clients;
  • Remain up to date on developments in the industry and actively develop the client network;
  • Responsible for identifying and pursuing opportunities to expand the ALS Metallurgy business and to achieve progressive and continuous market share growth;
  • Review all elements of business operations and associated risks. Implement programs to address risks that might negatively impact client, employee or the public at large;
  • Continuously review operational cost and services structure, productivity measures and delivery methods to achieve planned ROI;
  • Work with the VP Americas to determine human resource requirements and the necessary organizational structure to support defined objectives;
  • Actively foster a corporate culture that engages employees, values health & safety and ensures quality requirements are consistently followed;
  • Maintain a high level of employee commitment to the company and its performance objectives;
  • Provide for mentoring and development of key and high potential employees by leading the implementation of succession planning activities;
  • Ensure correct methods are utilized in accordance with the established procedures and schedules while ensuring analytical quality;
  • Provide consulting services to clients in the field of metallurgical test work or mineral processing;
  • Review and ensure quality standards for professional technical reports summarizing project results are maintained;
  • Recommend future programs of test work in order to maximize process efficiency;
  • Evaluate and implement new technology and services including equipment and methods that add value to client projects and improve ALS Metallurgy’s ability to compete;
  • Observe established safety regulations and comply with all ALS health, safety, and environmental policies and procedures;
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:
  • P. Eng designation required;
  • Completed degree in Metallurgy or Mineral Processing or equivalent, Masters level or PhD preferred;
  • Advance degree or additional certification in executive leadership or management (MBA, PhD) is preferred;
  • A minimum of 5 - 10 years of relevant experience in a senior managerial or director role;
  • Extensive experience in managing multiple functions or departments through direct reports and managers.
  • Travel required up to 10%
Physical Demands:
  • Manual dexterity to perform intricate and/or repetitive tasks;
  • Ability to sit at a desk and do general office work, which includes periodic sedentary responsibilities;
  • Ability to sit and/or stand for extended periods of time;
  • Although ALS Metallurgy Kamloops operates on a week-day basis, there will be at times a need to work extended hours or weekends.
Our benefits include:
  • An estimated annual salary ranging from $180,000 - $220,000 at the time of posting. Individual compensation is determined by factors such as job-related skills, relevant experience, education and/or training.
