We offer a flexible work environment and support a sustainable life/work balance.GENERAL PURPOSE OF THIS JOBThe Contracts Specialist reports to the Contracts Manager and works closely with other senior management employees to review contractual terms, in order to advise on issues arising, and to assist in the drafting of qualifications and amendments to reduce exposure to Cementation. In addition to the aforementioned, the Contracts Specialist will also be involved in the drafting of other contractual documents such as joint venture or other collaborative arrangements with third parties, as well as contract administration. This position requires a proactive individual, highly skilled in contract drafting, review and negotiation, as well as claims managementESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITESHealth & Safety
- Work in compliance with all Health and Safety rules and regulations of Cementation.
- Be aware of any health and safety hazards or infractions and report same to Health and Safety Department
- Maintain a safe and organized workspace, including when working at project sites and in technology‑related environments.
- Draft contractual qualifications for tenders and contractual amendments for mainly mining and engineering contracts.
- Draft notices, claims and other correspondence with regards to commercial and contract issues.
- Review Client contractual terms for tender submittals.
- Participate in negotiations with Clients to resolve contractual issues and finalize terms.
- Verify execution copies of contracts and assist in the execution process.
- Coordinate with cross-functional teams to ensure contractual compliance and address any discrepancies or issues.
- Participate in contract compliance audits, risk assessments, and development of strategies to mitigate risks.
- Mentor and advise team members in contract management and claims management principles.
- Maintain, update, utilise and further develop the Company's library of standard contract documents.
- Assist in drafting and negotiating other commercial documents e.g. joint venture agreements, collaboration agreements with First Nations, etc.
- Provide support to other business functions (i.e. engineering, procurement, finance, information technology, and asset management) in contractual arrangements.
- Advise on legal issues and provide support for any litigation.
- Support external counsel with regards to various matters.
- Provide management with briefings and other reports highlighting potential contractual risks and liabilities.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Even though based at the Cementation Canada Inc. Head Office, this position may require occasional travel to the offices of Clients or external lawyers.
- Travel period would not normally exceed three days at a time.
- Has no direct reports, however, is responsible for delegating and monitoring the work of other employees in various departments.
- Bachelor's degree in Law.
- Minimum of 8 years relevant experience, preferably in the mining, engineering or construction industries.
- Consideration will also be given to anyone with contractual/commercial experience in heavy civil construction.
- Experience in FIDIC, NEC contracts would be advantageous.
- Exceptional written and oral communication skills in English.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication abilities necessary to carry out reviews of contracts and other commercial documents.
- Strong negotiation and leadership skills are also considered an asset.
- Strong commercial / business acumen.
- Able to build and maintain lasting relationships with other departments, key business partners, clients, and other stakeholders.
- Able to work efficiently as a part of a team as well as independently.
- Ability to work effectively across all levels of the organization
- High level of confidentiality and trust.
- Ability to prioritize workload to ensure deadlines are met.

- Proficient computer skills, Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Powerpoint, Outlook, and Excel).
- Experience working with international contracts including would be considered advantageous.
