- Independently lead and deliver engineering design services for structural steel projects, providing technical direction to internal teams.
- Design and oversee the completion of most or all connection designs on typical projects, including complex and non-standard connections, ensuring accurate communication to the drafting team for incorporation into shop drawings.
- Review, approve, sign, and seal connection designs, calculations, and technical reports in accordance with professional and regulatory requirements.
- Mentor junior engineers and EITs, providing technical guidance, training, and formal review of their work to ensure quality and code compliance.
- Contribute to the development, standardization, and continuous improvement of engineering procedures, standards, and design tools.
- Apply strong commercial and practical judgment to deliver engineering solutions that balance safety, quality, cost-efficiency, and constructability.
- Prepare and review engineering hour estimates to support project planning, scheduling, change orders, and scope modifications.
- Provide engineering support for fabrication procedures and methods, including the design and review of lifting devices, temporary lifting lugs, temporary bracing, and miscellaneous shop-fabricated devices such as lifting beams.
- Support construction and field operations by performing or reviewing lift studies, temporary bracing designs, erection procedures, fall protection considerations, and conducting site visits to assess field conditions and ensure safe execution (considered a strong asset).
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree (B.Sc. or M.Sc.) in Civil Engineering.
- Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) registered with APEGA and eligible for registration with EGBC and APEGS.
- Minimum of 8 years of progressive experience in structural design, preferably within structural steel and fabrication environments.
- Demonstrated experience in structural steel connection design; fabrication and erection support experience is considered a strong asset.
- Strong working knowledge of applicable codes and standards (e.g., CSA S16, CSA W59, and related specifications).
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel (including advanced calculations and tool development), Word, and Outlook.
- Familiarity with Idea StatiCa, AutoCAD, and Tekla Structures is considered an asset.
- Proven ability to collaborate effectively with employees at all levels of the organization, as well as clients, consultants, and external stakeholders.
- Exceptional organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
- Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills, with the ability to clearly convey complex technical information.

- Hybrid working environment, combining office-based or remote working arrangements with regular attendance in the office, as dictated by operational requirements.
- May require the incumbent to walk stairs; be outside inclement weather (slippery surfaces and cold); carrying objects, driving and being exposed to normal office routines.
- The incumbent is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as viewing a computer terminal for extended periods of time, and extensive reading.
