This position is responsible for shaping and delivering high-impact earned media strategies that enhance OMA’s credibility, support healthcare priorities, and ensure accurate, compelling storytelling that informs and engages the public. The role also provides strategic media counsel to senior leadership and supports the organization in navigating complex or sensitive public issues.How you will make a difference
- Develop and lead the earned media strategy aligned with organizational priorities and healthcare initiatives, including identifying emerging issues, reputational risks, and opportunities to shape public discourse on healthcare.
- Cultivate and maintain relationships with key journalists, editors, and media outlets to position the organization as a trusted health authority.
- Identify, develop, and pitch compelling stories (research breakthroughs, patient impact, innovation, public health topics).
- Lead media response planning and execution during emerging issues, reputational risks, or crisis situations, including rapid response coordination and message development for senior leadership and spokespersons.
- Prepare executives, clinicians, and experts for media engagements with messaging, briefing notes, and training.
- Track earned media performance, analyze sentiment and reach, and report insights to leadership to guide strategy.
- Partner with internal teams (marketing, membership, research, digital, and government relations) to align communications efforts.
- Degree in journalism, communications, public relations, political science, or related discipline, or equivalent professional experience in media relations.
- Four to Five years of relevant experience.
- Demonstrated expertise in delivering integrated media initiatives across multiple communications channels, including print, broadcast, and digital platforms.
- Proven ability to manage high profile media issues, including crisis response, rapid media cycles, and reputational risk.
- Strong understanding of media operations and newsroom dynamics, with established relationships across print, radio, television, and online media and a proven ability to secure impactful coverage.
- Advanced project management capability, with the ability to prioritize competing demands, manage multiple projects simultaneously, and deliver results under tight deadlines.
- High level of organizational effectiveness, including strong attention to detail and the ability to coordinate complex communications activities.
- Expertise in project planning and time management to support the execution of high-profile communications initiatives.
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively and respectfully with media, executives, clinicians, and other stakeholders.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a proactive approach to identifying risks and mitigating communications issues.
- Knowledge of healthcare communications considerations, including sensitive storytelling, patient privacy requirements, and issues management in a highly regulated environment.
