- Performs skilled and semi-skilled maintenance, installation, operation, and repair duties related to the City's water transmission system, associated structures and mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, and electronic equipment.
- Determines work requirements, procedures to be used, materials required on job site.
- Prepares job site, erects barricades, carries out traffic control measures, sets up equipment, performs confined space entries, operates truck-mounted equipment/cranes.
- May be designated as Supervisor as defined by the O.H.S.A., acts as the City contact on site and is deemed to be a competent individual as defined by the O.H.S.A. as it relates to the job functions, when required to lead a crew.
- Maintains, operates, and repairs water mains, valves, and appurtenances.
- Cuts out and replaces pipes. Repairs and clears drains. Inspects, maintains, and repairs water main chambers including their structure and internal equipment such as valves and ladders.
- Performs basic electrical and instrumentation work, not requiring the services of a tradesperson, such as cleaning/calibration/testing of identified instruments, maintenance of batteries, lighting systems and minor electrical repairs, as well as performs routine service and repairs to mechanical equipment.
- Performs repairs, maintenance, and construction of structures and grounds.
- Sets up and operates oxy/acetylene and cutting equipment to effect minor repairs, not requiring the services of a tradesperson.
- Flushes and disinfects trunk mains and equipment, and checks water quality parameters, as required.
- Transports staff to various work locations and responds to emergency calls.
- Utilizes the Work Management System to identify and report maintenance needs, prepare reports, and initiate material requests.
- Communicates effectively verbally and in writing, including the preparation of reports and sketches, details of work completed, and data logging.
- Utilizes, tests, and checks a variety of tools/equipment/machines/vehicles and is responsible for their maintenance.
- Provides support to other tradespersons.
- Performs other related work as assigned.
- May be required to work shifts.
- May be required to report to different locations based on operational needs.
Your application must describe your qualifications as they relate to: * Extensive experience in utility repairs and installations and in utilizing a variety of power tools and heavy equipment.
- Experience performing various maintenance, installation, and repairs as described above with the ability to use the related equipment.
- Must possess and be able to maintain a valid Province of Ontario Class "G" Driver's License and must qualify for the City's equipment operating permits and requirements.
- Must obtain through examination by the Ontario Water Wastewater Certificate Office (OWWCO) a valid Class 1 Operators License in Water Distribution within 90 days from their employment start date.
- Two years post secondary education in skilled trades, industrial maintenance, or construction would be considered an asset.
- Knowledge of City's water transmission system and related installations and maintenance work.
- Must be familiar with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and the regulations that apply to this work.
- Must be able to work in and have knowledge of confined space entry and traffic control regulations.
- Must be able to work in all weather conditions and heights.
- Must be physically capable of performing required duties.
- Must be available to work shift/weekend/overtime/on call duty, and report to remote sites.
- Basic computer skills, with an ability to input data.
- Ability to read and interpret sketches/maps/drawings.
- Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
- Ability to provide work direction and training to others.
- Ability to work well as a team member with minimal supervision.
- Ability to deal courteously with the public.
