Tier 2 Canada Research Chair inHealth Equity and Data AnalyticsThe University of Winnipeg has designated a Tier 2 Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) Canada Research Chair (CRC) in Health Equity and Data Analytics. The University will be seeking an exceptional internal candidate only employed by The University of Winnipeg who should, at a minimum, be Assistant or Associate Professor, and have ten or fewer years of experience as an active researcher in their field at the time of nomination for this position.This thematic research area aims to advance health equity among individuals and populations. This involves identifying health disparities, examining their underlying causes, and informing policy development and procedural strategies to effectively address these issues. The scope of this research area encompasses a multidisciplinary approach, including, but not limited to, applied computer science, business administration, biology, chemistry, economics, geography, kinesiology, mathematics and statistics, physics, and psychology. Under the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR), health equity and data analytics research may cover areas such as data equity in public health; occupational health and safety; the design and analysis of healthcare systems; healthcare operations research; chronic disease management; electronic health record systems; predictive analytics related to health disparities; health information systems; and the application of artificial intelligence in healthcare and health equity initiatives, among others.By integrating multiple disciplines through interdisciplinary approaches and mixed methods, research in health, equity, and data analytics aims to identify the factors influencing health disparities and to support evidence-based public health strategies that promote health equity. This field seeks to understand and address the root causes of health inequities to improve health outcomes. Additionally, this research focuses on identifying health disparities, developing targeted interventions, and utilizing state-of-the art empirical methods. It also emphasizes evaluating the effectiveness of interventions while considering relevant sex and gender differences, social determinants of health, and broader health inequities.The Canada Research Chair will lead a comprehensive research program focused on health, equity, and data analytics, aiming to advance health equity by identifying disparities, analyzing their underlying causes, and developing targeted intervention strategies. The specific scope of the position within these broad areas will be clarified in collaboration with the successful candidate, the Provost, and the Vice-President, Research and Innovation. While this position is designated as a CIHR Canada Research Chair, prior research funding from CIHR is not a prerequisite. For each Tier 2 Chair, the institution receives $120,000 annually for five years, with the potential to renew once.The successful candidate will be nominated for a Tier 2 CIHR CRC, and, upon successful confirmation, will be appointed at their current rank. The proposed Chair will be expected to develop a rigorous, independently funded, and internationally recognized research program, and to support talent development in the field among students and colleagues. The candidate will contribute to service and teaching within The University of Winnipeg’s undergraduate and/or graduate programs.ELIGIBILITYEligibility criteria for Tier 2 Chairs are for exceptional emerging scholars employed by The University of Winnipeg who should, at a minimum, be Assistant or Associate Professors, and have ten or fewer years of experience as an active researcher in their field at the time of nomination.
