The OpportunityMcElhanney is seeking a skilled and motivated Intermediate Environmental Biologist to join our growing team on Vancouver Island. As a key member of our environmental group, you’ll collaborate with, and be supported by, more than 50 experienced professionals across a wide range of specialties.In this role, you’ll take on responsibilities such as collecting baseline environmental data, preparing environmental protection plans, and providing Environmental Monitoring for major multi-disciplinary construction projects. We’re looking for someone who brings strong experience, initiative, and a desire to contribute meaningfully to our dynamic team.While candidates may be based anywhere on Vancouver Island, preference will be given to those currently living in, or willing to relocate to, the Courtenay/Campbell River Area, BC.This position offers flexibility, with the option to work a full 40-hour week or a reduced schedule (minimum 32 hours), depending on mutual agreement.Our team is solution-oriented and committed to delivering integrated, multi-disciplinary services in planning, design, permitting, construction, risk mitigation, assessment, remediation, and reclamation. As trusted advisors to industry, Indigenous Groups, private clients, and government partners, we strive to protect ecological integrity, integrate natural assets, and balance environmental stewardship with our clients’ needs.What You’ll Do
  • All stages of environmental studies from proposal preparation through data collection, interpretation, and reporting
  • Coordinating permits, licenses, and approvals
  • Design and implement terrestrial and aquatic habitat mitigation and compensation measures
  • Coordinate subcontracting specialties as required
  • Environmental management, erosion, and sediment control design and monitoring
  • Provide environmental advice and solutions to guide design and assist with planning
  • Coordinate and manage project tasks to ensure timely delivery, utilizing strong project management and organizational skills
  • Business development, and client relations
What You’ll Bring
  • 10+ years of experience within a similar role
  • Registration in good standing in British Columbia as an RPBio is required
  • Experience should include reporting, proposal preparation, aquatic or terrestrial habitat assessments, environmental monitoring, and permitting
  • Specialization in fisheries/aquatic sciences would be an asset
  • Ability to work independently and travel as needed for field work throughout BC
  • Proven report writing experience, strong communication abilities and regulatory (Federal, Provincial) approval experience
  • Experience liaising with clients, First Nations, and government agencies
  • A valid BC driver’s license is required
What Can We Offer You?The salary range for this position is $85,000 – $120,000 per annum. McElhanney offers fair compensation that is commensurate with the individual’s education, experience, skills, and professional qualifications. The posted base salary/wage range is representative of the required level of qualifications and experience for the position as noted in the job posting. The salary offered will be based on the experience and qualifications of the successful candidate.
