The Environment Supervisor works as a hands-on collaborator with the VFX Supervisor, CG Supervisor, department supervisors and leads to ensure that all delivered shots maintain the group’s exceptional standards. With minimal direction and mentorship from their supervisors, their primary task is to support their leads, artists, and Production to produce outstanding creation of environments for complex shots in industry leading, photo-realistic visual effects films and feature animations.We are looking for a creative who reflects the innovative spirit, creative talent, production excellence, team-oriented mentality and passion for innovative filmmaking that define ILM!What You’ll Do:Manage Clients needs, expectations and aspirations to deliver the highest quality work, on time and to budgetBe aware of the impact creative decisions have on a show's schedule & budget, and be willing to change the creative choices, when possible, to stay on schedule budgetFoster a respectful and cooperative dynamic within the teamEmpower team members to collaborate inclusively and build community and a sense of belongingServe as a role model and mentor for and within the departmentSupervise an environments team towards the creation of published CG environments that meet required visual and technical standards and are delivered on timeReview the work of your team, giving feedback and approving submissions for dailiesProvide technical support for your team, communicating any software issues to the developersWork closely with other departments to ensure published environments function as required in the pipelineWork with the lighting department to ensure environments render efficiently and without errorsWork with production to establish milestones and targets, and with the team to ensure targets are metAttend bidding sessions with production and provide bids for environment workWork with the CG Supervisor to determine the appropriate skillset and experience levels for the environment team on your projectWork with your local head of department to participate in the supervision and direction of a variety of administrative and personnel decisions and responsibilities including: recruitment, determination of work procedures and priorities, career development, employee morale, performance reviews and conflict resolutionCollaborates with the Talent manager with the employee review process and the scheduling of personnel on shows, providing input on skills, productivity, and career developmentWorks with the Talent Manager and local HOD on defining the on-going recruitment needs of the department and is involved in the interview process for potential candidatesWork with your global counterparts/head of department to drive the development of tools, standards and processesWorking with Talent Management to mentor potential supervisory up-and-coming talentProvide clear, concise and timely feedback for colleagues and peers in other departmentsContribute to the documentation for tools and processes, offer feedback to developersWhat We’re Looking For:10+ years of relevant professional VFX experience and a college level diploma in computer graphics, fine arts, design, or photography; OR 12+ years of relevant professional VFX experience in lieu of educationProven expertise in all CG techniques, including modelling, texturing, shading, lighting, look development, and compositingShown artistic ability in a non‐CG field (portfolio of figure or landscape drawing, painting, photography, composition, perspective, lighting etc.)Demo reel and shot breakdown requiredHigh level of problem solving or creative thinking skillsExtensive knowledge of Matte Painting techniques as well as 3D environment techniquesExpert in the following software:Photoshop3ds Max, Maya, Houdini or similarVray, RenderMan or similar rendererNuke or similar compositing softwareProficient in additional environment tools like Gaea, Terragen, Speedtree, Zbrush, Substance PainterDemonstrated ability to learn new software quicklyExcellent communication and team-oriented thinkingPassion for sharing knowledge, helping others, problem solvingBeing curious of new tools and technologies to improve efficiencyEagerness for improvement, of attention to details and photo realism of your workDesire to grow with the companyAs part of your application please submit a demo reel, shot breakdown, or equivalent showcasing your work. The amount of hours scheduled per week may vary based on business needs. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate’s geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors.
