Health NetworkNew Brunswick Midwifery is Expanding!We’re looking for passionate midwives to join the Horizon Health Network team in Fredericton, New Brunswick. Whether you’re experienced or just starting your career, we have flexible opportunities available with full-time, part-time, and casual positions.Our midwives provide comprehensive primary maternity care in a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment. We’re committed to patient and family centered care, excellence in practice, and strong teamwork.The Fredericton Midwifery CentreSince implementation in 2017, midwives have worked in a unionized employee model with Horizon Health Network, providing paid vacation and sick leave, pension, health benefits, overtime and on-call pay. The Fredericton Midwifery Centre is a stand-alone clinic on Fredericton’s Northside with administrative, overhead and professional development funding provided by the employer. Caseload is 3 clients per month per full time midwife, drawn from a catchment area within 1 hour of the Dr Everett Chalmers Hospital. The Chalmers is a Level 3 hospital featuring an NICU and 24/7 ER and Obstetrical coverage. Caseload selection prioritises vulnerable populations as well as clients interested in homebirth. We support both in hospital and homebirths, with a homebirth rate of approximately 30%.Midwives work in a flexible team with a focus on work-life balance for a midwife’s individual needs. Our team places a strong emphasis on teamwork and communication, both within the midwifery group and the larger interprofessional team, and on a high standard of clinical care, ensuring our clients are receiving thorough informed choice discussions containing the most current clinical guidance. Midwifery is also still a young profession in New Brunswick and thus there are many opportunities to sit on Horizon-specific, local and provincial committees.About FrederictonHome to two universities and the seat of New Brunswick’s government, Fredericton is a bright and family friendly place to call home. - Provide care, assessment, and monitoring of women during normal pregnancy, labour, and the postpartum period as well as their healthy newborns.
- Provide health care in clients’ homes, communities and in hospital and clinic.
- Provide care consistent with the philosophy and ethics of midwifery care in Canada
- Respect community standards of care and NB code of ethics
- Support both hospital and home births, with a home birth rate of approx. 30%
- Work well within a team and maintain positive relationships with community providers
- Must be a graduate of a Canadian university midwifery education program or an equivalent in accordance with the New Brunswick Midwifery Act and Regulations
- Must be eligible to register with the Midwifery Council of New Brunswick
- Must possess a valid driver’s license and own a vehicle
- Ability to attend work on a regular basis
- Ability to perform the duties of the position
- Good work record
- Willingness to undergo a criminal record check and vulnerable sector record check as condition of employment
