Analyst, Research and PolicyHealth Services – Health ProtectionStatus: (2) Contract Fill Time (Contract End Date: December 31, 2026)Salary Range: $94,455 - $118,069Hiring Range: $94,455 - $106,262Work mode: Hybrid* see below for more details about this work mode.Location: 7120 Hurontario Street, Mississauga, ONHours of work: 35 hours per weekReporting to the Manager, Health Protection, you will provide research and analysis, project leadership, policy and strategic assistance, program planning and evaluation support to the Health Protection Division and the Medical Officer of Health on environmental health issues, in particular climate change.Responsibilities include:
  • Research health issues in the environmental health practice area dealing with air quality and climate change
  • Evaluation and critical appraisal of relevant studies to inform evidence-based practice in environmental health
  • Recommend risk management strategies involving a wide range of stakeholders from the community, government, and non-governmental agencies
  • Develop policy positions on climate change and air quality issues
  • Monitor and evaluate the local implications of municipal, provincial and federal health policy decisions
  • Design interventions to reduce the health-related impacts of climate change
  • Liaise with colleagues from other divisions within Public Health and the Region of Peel, members of the community, representatives of industry and environmental groups, government officials and staff from area municipal departments
What the Role Requires:
  • A satisfactory Level 1 Criminal Record Check obtained directly from a police station (third-party background checks will not be accepted)
  • Master’s degree in public health, toxicology, planning or other relevant public health discipline
  • A minimum of three years related experience
  • An equivalent combination of education and/or experience may be considered
  • Demonstrated ability to synthesize, evaluate and integrate health, and environment information from multiple sources and provide recommendations related to preventing/mitigating health impacts, policy formulation and strategic planning/prioritization
  • Broad knowledge of climate change and public health issues, and environmental and health impact assessments
Skills/Abilities:
  • Strong knowledge in qualitative and quantitative research methods and analytical skills including critical appraisal and appropriate use of evidence
  • Excellent communication and report writing skills
  • Superior organizational skills coupled with the ability to work effectively across organizational boundaries
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to work with a high degree of discretion and diplomacy
  • Strong presentation skills
  • Strong computer proficiency in Microsoft Office
