Job DescriptionPosition: R&D Product AssociateDivision: Research and DevelopmentLocation: 388 ApplewoodDate: May 2025Reports to: Product ManagerJOB SUMMARYThis position covers a wide range of tasks and duties under the R&D department’s scope of work. This involves working with multiple teams within the department. In general, this may include, but not limited to, the R&D Design Team, Product Integration Team, R&D Laboratory and Testing Team, and Building Envelope team. This position will also provide technical support other departments/companies in with the Toro Group. Given the diverse exposure to many aspects of our business. It is critical to be highly adaptive and resourceful in a fast, continually evolving work environment.DIRECT AND/OR INDIRECT REPORTSNoneMAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES/ACCOUNTABILITIESHealth and Safety
  • Works in compliance with the Health & Safety Act and regulations including using any equipment, protective devices or clothing required.
  • Reports any known workplace hazards or violations of the Act to the supervisor.
Technical/Function
  • Coordinate and liaise between various departments such as QC, Production, Receiving, PM team, Release team, Drafting and Purchasing during the product design, development and implementation stages.
  • Coordinate technical drawings and purchase orders between vendors, designers and purchasing department as well as keep the inventory management system updated for new aluminum parts.
  • Assist in the coordination & procurement of material needed for the design, development, and testing of new products.
  • Ensure organizational process assets are properly catalogued on SharePoint or other central repository.
  • Maintain version control and ensure proper approvals for all drawing and document updates.
  • Assist in drafting of design and performance test sample packages.
  • Support product prototyping efforts, including 3D printing and assembly of test units.
  • Assist in assembly, testing and leading various physical mockups in the R&D lab and provide assistance at 3rd party testing laboratory testing.
  • Collaborate with internal and external customers to prepare detailed 3D models and assemblies for mock ups, internal review, or testing.
  • Lead coordination meetings with various departments with a well thought out agenda.
  • Draw all required details for new product development.
  • Help to create and edit fabrication details and manuals as required.
  • Assist with the development of drawings required for test reports.
  • Ensure all drawings and technical documents are reviewed and endorsed by management prior to distribution to suppliers or external customers.
  • Track and manage all changes to the design manual, ensuring modification are documented, approved, and communicated effectively.
  • Participate in periodic product testing, including on site and 3rd party lab visits, and assist in compiling results and documentation.
  • Attend monthly meetings and complete actions promptly
  • Contribute to process improvement initiatives by identifying gaps in communication, documentation, or co-ordination workflows.
  • Support cross-team initiative and provide technical input where required across the product development lifecycle.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Internal/External Customer Service
  • Work closely with various R&D teams and other internal technical teams, management and other departments in supporting and delivering an effective service.
  • Communicate effectively with others via various means.
  • There may be a periodic need to work outside of regular business hours.
Administration
  • Maintain accurate and up to date documentation of R&D activities, research findings, project reports etc.
  • Follow company policies submittals via Dayforce.
  • Participate in or with departmental meetings, trackers, recordings…
EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS
  • Minimum requirement of 2 years college diploma or higher, in a related field (e.g. engineering, design, technology).
EXPERIENCE
  • 2-5 years of experience in a Technical/Design or Manufacturing field.
  • Reading and understanding architectural and technical drawings
SKILLS
  • Conversant with company manufacturing processes.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects.
  • Analytical mindset with the ability to gather, interpret and present data.
  • Basic understanding of Windows, Doors and various glazing systems
  • Use of measuring equipment such as calipers and tape measures.
  • Good communication effectively with management and team members.
  • Ability to multi-task and complete several jobs at once.
  • Work with minimal supervision, but also within a close team setting.
  • Good computer skills including Microsoft Office Products, AutoCAD, Inventor, Bluebeam
