- Design and develop solutions with a Mechanical / Structural focus for the integration of new sub-systems / components into existing systems.
- Provide mechanical subject matter expertise and practical experience into multidisciplinary teams delivering engineering design, development, and design intent maintenance projects.
- Lead small to medium multi-disciplinary teams to deliver engineering design and development projects and meet contracted time, cost and quality requirements.
- Allocate tasks to designers, check design and drawing outputs, and ensure integration of interdisciplinary designs in accordance with company and regulatory standards.
- Provide technical assistance and feedback to designers to ensure the use of correct methods and tools for assigned tasks.
- Conduct independent technical studies and assessments of marine mechanical and structural elements and analyze recommended changes to existing mechanical systems to assess the design impact of proposed changes.
- Communicate technical subjects, issues, solutions and risks to both technical and nontechnical stakeholders.
- Participate in the development of in-house processes and tools used to support and improve the way we work.
- Support the production of technical drawings and specifications to support the implementation of Engineering Changes on board Victoria Class Submarines.
- Work directly, and communicate effectively, with other stakeholders, including project managers, configuration, engineering, and other departments to meet delivery targets.
- Liaise with sub-contractors to ensure design for manufacturing.
- Conduct onsite inspections/surveys as necessary.
- Strong technical skills including post-secondary education; degree, diploma and/or certificate in Mechanical Engineering technology, or equivalent experience.
- Registration as an Applied Science Technologist (AScT), Certified Engineering Technologist (C.E.T) or Professional Engineer (PEng) with the applicable provincial association.
- Ten (10)+ years of experience in mechanical drafting and design.
- Submarine specific knowledge, such as the standards that control mechanical design elements of the Victoria Class submarines, considered an asset.
- Experience with creation of Engineering Change Installation Packages.
- Recent and significant experience working with CAD tools and overseeing the CAD work of others.
- Proven leadership skills and experience directing technical teams in a collaborative working environment such as an integrated multi-functional project team or a mix of subcontractors.
- Superior verbal and written communication skills, including writing formal reports and delivering presentations to internal and external stakeholders.
- Experience mentoring and developing junior staff and industry placement trainees (Co-ops).
- You are eligible for a Canadian Secret Security and ITAR Clearance.
