- Provide vacation, leave and/or training relief firstly for Shift Supervisors assigned to a specific crew
- Provide support to capital projects and major outage planning/work
- Collaboratively participate in all commissioning and start-up activities as required
- Ensure the plant and associated equipment is operated in compliance with applicable regulations, policies and procedures
- Exercise sound judgment and take timely actions as needed to ensure personnel safety, to remain in compliance with regulations, and to prevent equipment damage
- Administer the plant Lock Out/Tag Out program to ensure tasks are completed safely
- Implement safety programs and lead Operating Crew members to adopt safe work practices
- Operate the plant and all associated equipment through the Delta V DCS system to ensure operation within specified parameters
- Perform plant rounds outside the Control Room as required
- Effectively communicates plant status to Plant Management, the Operators and other persons in the Plant
- Provide leadership to develop standard operating procedures and practices
- Ensure that the SOPs are revised and reviewed in a timely manner to reflect current best way practices to operate the equipment
- Assist the Operations Manager in the oversight of daily plant operations and with plant scheduling and manpower loading
- Assist the Operations Manager with the optimization of plant operating performance and production
- Assist the Operations Manager with budgeting and prioritizing Capital requirements
- Assist the Operations and Maintenance Managers with the planning of the maintenance shutdowns
- Troubleshoot operational problems and initiate maintenance requests.
- Assists operational and maintenance teams in achieving operations, maintenance, reliability and capital objectives. Identify gaps in the management system and makes recommendations for improvements. ∙ Collaborates with the Tradespeople, Plant Management and/or Contractors to troubleshoot and resolve maintenance issues
- Assess risks posed by identified problems and ensure management and other plant personnel are made aware of those risks
- Perform minor breakdown and preventive maintenance tasks as required
- Perform other duties related to operations including assisting with maintenance planning and coordination, investigating loss events, and developing/reviewing procedures
- Manage the performance of Operating Crew members. Encourage, train, mentor and coach Operating Crew members to complete their job tasks, learning systems and for professional qualifications. ∙ Provides Team Members with performance and development feedback and support. ∙ Signs off other Team Members’ qualifications as competent to operate a given system. ∙ Collaborate to develop the site reliability and operations continuity plans
- Participate in the shutdown planning and scheduling activities for both sites. Collaborate with local teams in identifying work and with the writing of procedures and task identification for individual site requirements
- Work with the site teams to prepare and review safe work procedures for all operating and shutdown activities
- Ensure good communication and cooperation between both Plant sites and with corporate teams. Contribute and in some cases lead the development of regional initiatives
- Complete required logs and reports
- Schedule Operating Crew personnel
- May have the opportunity to assist and work at the other plant for short assignments
- May be asked to participate on health and safety committees and initiatives
- Ensure good communication with stakeholder representatives
- Ensure the compliance of subcontractors and participate in their pre-qualification
- Perform other duties as assigned
- Possess a valid BC Interprovincial First Class or Second Class Power Engineer’s Certificate of Competency (First Class preferred; if a Second Class candidate is selected, temporary certificates may be applied for as needed to cover for the Operations Manager; candidates may need to obtain Class One certification
- The candidate will possess a valid BC Interprovincial First Class or Second Class Power Engineer’s Certificate of Competency; supervisory background in an electrical generating facility is preferred
- Experience with and CEMS operation is a requirement of this role
- Experience as a Control Room Operator or Shift Supervisor in a Solid Fuel facility is highly desirable
- The position requires a broad background in plant operations including at least ten (10) years in hands-on and/or supervision of Power Plant machinery.
- General knowledge and/or experience in industrial safety are required or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Solid computer skills: proficiency with spreadsheet, email, and word processing software required; Microsoft Office and Windows preferred.
- A working knowledge of Computerized Maintenance Management Software VAMS applications will be an asset.

- External candidates must possess all required safety certifications prior to employment, including:
- Confined Space Training
- Fall Protection Certification
- WHMIS (Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System)
- Any additional site-specific safety certifications as required.
- Be able to work for prolonged periods in extremes of hot and cold temperatures and inclement weather conditions. Be able to tolerate dust and other airborne particles and work around other materials such as biomass, diesel and lube oils. Under certain conditions while working in the plant, may be required to wear a respirator. Required to wear safety equipment and FR clothing where appropriate. Requires frequent stooping, bending, climbing, reaching, and carrying and moving heavy objects with assistance when required. Must be able to work from ladders, scaffolds, and high-lifts, and in confined spaces.
