Reporting to the Manager of Facilities Management, the successful candidate will participate as a member of the Facilities Department team, performing skilled plumbing and related duties that require specialized training and trade certification. The candidate will be responsible for the installation, replacement, maintenance, and preventive maintenance for all plumbing service equipment in the Hospital. All duties will be carried out in accordance with all provincial, municipal codes and department and hospital policies. The candidate will be expected to participate in meetings, workshops, training and seminars as required. The candidate will participate in hospital-wide activities and programs that model and promote a safe and healthy patient-centered environment and that contribute to quality improvement and risk management initiatives. This position supports the hospital's academic mandate by advancing care through teaching and learning and/or transforming care through research and innovation. This position contributes to the shared responsibility of ensuring health and safety policies are followed to provide for a healthy environment for patients, staff, physicians, volunteers and families.On a practical level, you will
- Actively participate in the preventative maintenance program by checking, repairing, and replacing the plumbing service equipment
- Attend to emergency breakdown calls of such things as toilets, drain blockages and floods
- Lay-out, design, and install plumbing systems for additions, alterations, and installations
- Ensure that all existing equipment complies with all plumbing codes
- Demonstrate the ability to function effectively as a member of a trade team and to demonstrate the ability to relate in a tactful and sensitive manner with staff, patients, physicians and the general public
- Other duties as assigned
- Ontario Ministry of Colleges and Universities Certificate of Qualifications in the trade of plumbing
- Minimum 3 years related plumbing experience
- Ability to work independently
- Strong organizational and communication skills
- Strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills
