We're seeking someone to join our team as a Cloud Infrastructure Engineering Specialist to join the Firmwide developer tools group, MSDE. MSDE is responsible for shaping the SDLC within Morgan Stanley by implementing the tools, systems, and processes used by 15,000+ developers in the Firm for software development and deployment.In the Technology division, we leverage innovation to build the connections and capabilities that power our Firm, enabling our clients and colleagues to redefine markets and shape the future of our communities. This is a Cloud & Infrastructure Engineering position at Vice President level, which is part of the job family responsible for managing and optimizing technical infrastructure and ensuring the seamless operation of IT systems to support business needs effectively.Since 1935, Morgan Stanley is known as a global leader in financial services, always evolving and innovating to better serve our clients and our communities in more than 40 countries around the world.Position Description:Work within the wider MSDE Engineering team that is responsible for managing and maintaining a set of enterprise hosted and SaaS developer enablement tools that are used throughout Morgan Stanley's global IT development community.A successful candidate will have sufficient technical skills required to support these products on a Linux platform and/or Cloud based platform. You will need to have a strong focus on automation to speed up delivery and help build scalable systems with high reliability. In addition, you will also collaborate with the MSDE Engineering team to ensure tight integration with other developer focused products such as GitHub, Jenkins, GitHub Actions, Artifactory, Jira, Sonar, and SourceGraph. We also work closely with department leads for major language tooling (Python/Java/C++), to the largest developer teams that run the firm's risk and trading systems.What you'll do in the role:
  • Work on strategic shift from legacy tooling platform to modern replacements, including work on our cloud first strategy
  • Build enterprise level tooling, services, management layers around cloud/saas based products
  • Work on migration strategy moving users and workload from legacy to strategic
  • Manage ongoing maintenance of legacy on-prem tooling
  • Influencing architectural decisions, using the best and most suitable technologies available
  • Participate in the renovation of our legacy stack to move to a modern container-based model, with a cloud first shift
  • Mentor and train other team members on source control practices, design standard and coding techniques
  • Manage individual project priorities, timelines and deliverables based on your technical expertise.
  • Developing the team to ensure quality end products
  • Driving collaboration with other company wide engineering teams to drive tech sharing, and strong business outcomes
  • Writing end user facing documentation for the IT community
What you'll bring to the role:
  • Hands on development experience in Python
  • Highly technical and passionate about programming and engineering
  • Experience working as a developer on a large-scale project
  • Strong knowledge of Linux OS
  • You have an automation driven mindset using Python or any other scripting language
Nice to have:
  • Containerization, including Kubernetes, docker and helm; knowledge of Azure and/or AWS
  • Prior experience developing tools for build automation, version control (Bitbucket, GitHub), issue tracking (Jira), continuous integration (Jenkins, GitHub Actions), automated testing, or deployment automation.
  • Java experience or another programming language
  • Prior experience working in an agile, globally distributed environment
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills
