- Oversee the work of subordinate supervisors, provide direct ongoing direction, coaching, mentoring, and training to unit staff, and ensure accountability for achieving key outcomes and performance targets
- Provide guidance and direction in staff hiring, retention, and performance management, including evaluating employee performance, managing pay administration, and resolving exception time and absence issues
- Lead all progressive discipline processes up to and including dismissal, and work with Labour Relations to conduct and see through necessary grievance processes
- Collaborate with the General Supervisor to determine staffing requirements, conduct recruitment and selection processes, make hiring and promotion decisions, and strategically realign work to capitalize on staff strengths
- Manage the unit operating budget, identify and prepare operating budget requirements for the LRT fleet and shop equipment, administer budgets, and explain variances
- Manage maintenance and repair projects to ensure operational and safety requirements are met, and organize unit resources to optimize staff skills and abilities
- Ensure all safety standards and procedures are fully implemented, train and certify staff on safe equipment operation, and actively participate in the OHS Safety Committee and Accident Review Committee
- Identify and implement efficiencies and improvements for staff and unit processes, and implement policies, procedures, and practices related to LRT vehicle and shop equipment operations and maintenance
- Provide leadership and direction to the section to meet established performance targets (safety, budget, service reliability, bookout), and lead the development and implementation of specific action plans for fleet maintenance
- Hire and direct staff and contractors providing maintenance services, and review, manage, administer, and evaluate the performance of suppliers and service contracts
- Diploma or University Degree in a related field, supplemented by relevant managerial/supervisory coursework and experience. (Equivalent combinations of experience and education will be considered.)
- Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience managing a fleet maintenance and repair shop, including proven success managing diverse unionized staff and ensuring compliance with Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) and environmental programs/legislation
- Possession of a Mobile Fleet Managerial Certificate or a combination of fleet supervisor courses supported by related professional experience
- Experience with Light Rail Vehicles and LRT technology
- Technical and Maintenance Decisions: Provide critical input on appropriate preventative maintenance programs, assess and decide on the correct course of action for complex technical issues (electronic, electrical, mechanical), and make cost-effective and technically sound recommendations regarding repair versus replacement, materials, and inspection frequency
- Operational Standards and Risk Mitigation: Determine necessary work procedures, performance measures, and maintenance standards for the fleet, while deciding on appropriate actions to resolve customer inquiries and incidents, and implementing measures to minimize operational, safety, and environmental impacts
- Strategic Program Development: Determine what new maintenance programs and services staff can provide versus what should be contracted out, provide input on design requirements for new LRT fleet and equipment, and monitor contractor service delivery and compliance through site inspections
- Personnel Management and Labour Relations: Decide on staff requirements to meet objectives, execute hiring, coaching, counseling, performance monitoring, discipline, and performance evaluation, and actively engage in resolving issues with the Union, including providing input for collective bargaining

- Hours of work: 36.9 hours per week, Monday - Friday
- Salary: $108,838.80 - $136,046.09 (Annually)
- This position is eligible for the EDO program (Earned Day Off)
- Valid Alberta Class 5 driver’s license (or provincial equivalent)
