Design Engineer (Mechanical Focus)Location: Sherwood Park, AB (with travel to project sites as required)About MSCPMSCP Heat Management Solutions is a rapidly evolving organization built as a system of interdependent processes and not as a traditional hierarchy. Estimating, engineering, procurement, manufacturing, and field execution operate as connected entity, each contributing to the overall flow of work. Our focus is not on maximizing efficiency, we focus on managing our chosen constraints and improving total system throughput. This requires a shared conceptual foundation grounded in systems thinking, Theory of Constraints, and practical application in industrial environments.Engineering at MSCP does not exist as a standalone function. It exists to enable flow—to ensure that what is designed can be estimated, built, installed, and maintained without friction. Our work spans different industrial sectors, including oil & gas, where mechanical reliability, constructability, and repeatability are critical. Strong theoretical understanding is valued as it leads to clear, executable, and scalable solutions.Role OverviewThe Design/Structural Engineer is a new position that plays a central role in strengthening MSCP’s mechanical design capability as we expand into more complex product and system offerings that require standardization and a high level of repeatability. This role is responsible for developing engineered solutions related to structural/mechanical assemblies, heat management systems, insulation systems, and supporting infrastructure, while ensuring alignment with electrical heat trace (EHT) and control systems, where required. The Design Engineer is expected to operate across the system, bridging engineering, manufacturing, and field execution, ensuring that designs are not only technically sound, but flow efficiently from concept to installation.Success in this role is measured by:Reduction in rework and design-related delaysIncreased repeatability and standardizationImproved integration between mechanical, electrical, and field executionContribution to the development of scalable mechanical capabilities within MSCPKey ResponsibilitiesMechanical Design & Engineering (Primary Focus)Develop detailed mechanical designs, assemblies, and engineered solutions for heat management and insulation systemsDesign of complex mechanical structures and supports that are robust, installable, and suited to industrial environmentsProduce fabrication-ready drawings, models, and specifications with a focus on clarity and usabilityEnsure all designs are grounded in real-world constructability, access, and installation constraintsDrive standardization of mechanical components and assemblies to support repeatable executionSystem-Centered EngineeringDesign with full awareness of downstream impacts across estimating, procurement, manufacturing, and field executionIdentify and address constraints in design that may limit flow, constructability, or scalabilityCollaborate company wide to ensure designs contribute to overall system performance rather than local optimizationTranslate field and manufacturing feedback into improved design approachesElectrical & Automation Integration (Supporting Role)Ensure mechanical designs integrate effectively with electrical heat trace (EHT), controls, and automation systemsSupport coordination of electrical layouts, routing, and component placement as it relates to mechanical systemsWork with internal teams and vendors to align on power, control, and instrumentation requirementsMaintain alignment between mechanical design intent and system-level functionalityManufacturing & Product DevelopmentDevelop and maintain Bills of Materials (BOMs) with a focus on mechanical components and assembliesSupport the transition from custom design work to repeatable, production-ready solutionsContribute to manufacturing setup, including tooling considerations and production flowAssist in building MSCP’s internal capability to produce standardized mechanical systemsField Integration & SupportEngage with field teams to validate designs and ensure alignment with installation realitiesParticipate in site visits to observe system performance and gather feedbackTroubleshoot mechanical and system-level issues and adjust designs accordinglyEnsure designs reduce ambiguity and enable efficient field executionContinuous Improvement & Capability BuildingContribute to the development of engineering standards, templates, and best practicesIdentify opportunities to simplify designs and reduce unnecessary complexitySupport the ongoing evolution of MSCP’s engineering function within our chosen system management approach (Deming and Theory of Constraints)Play a role in building long-term mechanical design capability within the organizationQualifications & ExperienceAdvanced Engineering degree in Mechanical, Automation, Aerospace, Naval, or related discipline5+ years of experience in mechanical design within industrial, construction, or manufacturing environmentsDemonstrated experience designing mechanical systems, structures, or assemblies in real-world applicationsExposure to electrical systems.
