The Team provides leadership on all aspects of Home Trust Companyrsquo;s Business Continuity Management program, including policy development, implementation, testing, maintenance and incident response, while fostering a culture of respect, trust and integrity.Position OverviewAs a critical part of the lending process, while promoting a strong credit risk culture, this position is responsible for exercising sound judgement in the timely adjudication of designated higher risk transactions including large loans; all defined lending exceptions and non-conforming loans for the Residential Mortgage and Retail Lending businesses. A leadership role that provides on-going effective challenge and professional feedback to the first line of defence to ensure adherence with HTC's risk appetite and credit standards. This position ensures compliance with all aspects of Home Trust Company's credit policies, guidelines and procedures per delegated credit authority and applicable regulatory requirements (i.e. OSFI Guideline B-20). This position will work closely with the lines of business and Enterprise Risk Management to contribute to the identification of issues or trends, as well as solutions, which could impact overall credit performance, operations and file quality.Position ResponsibilitiesRisk Management & Compliance, in adhering to applicable compliance obligations, including Privacy, Anti-Money Laundering/Anti-Terrorist Financing and internal Anti-Fraud Policy requirements, must remain the over-arching focus in carrying out one's responsibilities as outlined below:Approval/Adjudication & Review of Higher Risk Transactions and Exceptions (80%)
  • Operating within delegated credit authority, exercise sound judgement to provide thorough and timely approvals, recommendations or declines on files requiring exception approval or other designated higher risk transactions.
Credit Standard Development and Feedback (10%)
  • Provide appropriate levels of direction, coaching, support and follow-up on files under adjudication and review to the Business. Use expert Credit judgement to help identify/propose solutions for the Business on individual transactions. Provide on-going feedback to the Chief Credit Officer regarding underwriting practices and identify opportunities or provide recommendations to adjust Policies, Guidelines or processes. Provide input in the development of Underwriting and Credit Risk training programs. Maintain and update Credit procedures documents.
Reporting & Analysis (10%)
  • Complete fulsome rationale/notes for credit decisions on individual files and accurately record data points to link into departmental reporting. Where required, complete departmental reports to the Credit Committee and provide ad hoc analysis on adjudication results and workflow management.
Formal Education
  • Bachelor's degree required; Additional Master's degree preferred
  • Certification(s)/Designation(s) preferred in related area
Related ExperienceRelated Experience:Tier 1 level (higher delegated authority):
  • 15+ years related experience in financial services lending and/or credit risk with residential mortgage and consumer lending
  • Sound knowledge of regulatory environment within financial services industry, particularly Guideline B-20
  • Several years of proven expertise in credit adjudication, specifically at an Alt-A lender
  • Experience in generating reports and conducting analysis
  • Experience in reading and analyzing business financial statements
  • Experience in Small Business or Commercial lending/adjudication
  • Experience in conducting, reviewing or assessing mortgage
appraisals
  • Experience in managing and mentoring a group or department
Tier 2 level (lower delegated authority than Tier 1):
  • 10+ years related experience in financial services lending and/or credit risk with residential mortgage and consumer lending
  • Sound knowledge of regulatory environment within financial services industry particularly Guideline B-20
  • Experience in credit adjudication preferably with an Alt A lender
  • Experience in reading business financial statements
