This department leads the City's long term infrastructure planning for growth and renewal and establishes Engineering Policies and Standards. In addition to infrastructure-specific work, CAM leads and advances asset management initiatives for all corporate assets, ensures compliance with Provincial asset management regulations and participates in coordinating the City's corporate capital plan.Under the general guidance of the section supervisor the Senior Infrastructure Standards Technologist is responsible for the development, authoring, publishing, improvement, implementation, and quality management of the City's 200 plus Municipal Infrastructure Standards (Standards). Topics covered include a range of disciplines: Drinking Water, Wastewater, Stormwater, Transportation, Right of Ways (vehicular and pedestrian), Parks, and other infrastructure systems/assets owned and managed by the City. Collectively these systems account for an investment of more than $4 billion dollars.This position leads multidisciplinary teams of stakeholders and subject matter experts, and applies problem solving, technical writing skill and quality management principles to produce high quality, publicly available, requirements-based documents. Additionally, this position assesses opportunities for the City to improve its infrastructure by researching, evaluating, and making successful recommendations pertaining to new and emerging infrastructure technologies.   • Three (3) year College Diploma in Civil Engineering or a closely related discipline
  • Eligibility for and willingness to obtain a Certified Engineering Technologist (C.E.T.) Designation from the Ontario Association of Certified Engineering Technicians and Technologists (OACETT)

Experience
  • Five (5) years of experience performing duties related to the major responsibilities of the position
  • Experience in a field of practice related to one of the following municipal infrastructure systems: drinking water, wastewater, stormwater, and/or rights of way (pedestrian and vehicular)
  • Experience authoring and publishing documents of a requirements nature
  • Experience engaging and leading stakeholders from project kickoff through to project completion
  • Experience conducting research, preparing reports and making effective recommendations
Knowledge/Skill/Ability
  • General knowledge of the following legislation, regulations, or requirements: American Water Works Association (AWWA) standards; American Society of Testing and Materials (ASTM); Canadian Standards Association (CSA) standards; Asset Management Planning; Ontario Regulation 588/17; Role of Conservation Authorities (LSRCA and NVCA)
  • Working knowledge of Ontario Provincial Standards (OPS)
  • General knowledge of industry best practices related to municipal infrastructure systems, quality management systems and theory
  • Demonstrated ability to:

  • Availability to attend evening/weekend meetings or to work outside of designated normal hours per week
