- Provide daily supervision to staff and assign workloads to ensure that productivity targets are met or exceeded;
- Oversee staff schedule to ensure adequate coverage in a fiscally responsible manner;
- In conjunction with the Manager, conduct interviews and onboard new employees according to operational needs;
- Coordinate and provide training for the team on an as needed;
- In conjunction with the Manager, complete annual performance reviews for the employees;
- Maintain an adequate inventory of supplies and consumables to support the operations while ensuring efficiency;
- Ensure all maintenance and preventative maintenance schedules are followed;
- Prepare and maintain production reports and statistics to the Laboratory Manager;
- Maintain ALS quality management system requirements (QMS) for the department;
- Perform detailed data review, interpretation and processing;
- Ensure methodologies and accreditation requirements are met and documented;
- Participate in internal and external audits for the department and ensure timely resolution of any findings;
- Conduct regular crew talks to discuss safety, quality, process changes, management issues and corporate communications;
- Proactively review procedures and processes and provides input on their quality and reliability to the laboratory;
- Liaise with other departments to respond to client enquiries, address production issues and resolve client service concerns;
- Use correct methods in accordance with the established procedures and schedules while ensuring analytical quality;
- Observe established safety regulations and comply with all ALS health and safety policies and procedures;
- Other duties as assigned.

- Degree in Organic Chemistry or related field;
- Minimum 6 years of experience in operating and maintaining analytical chemistry instrumentation for a variety of Organic Chemistry methods;
- Experience working with ISO/IEC 17025 or similar International Standardization systems for laboratory operation;
- Minimum 3 years of experience leading a team in laboratory setting;
- Strong computer skills including MS Excel and MS Word;
- Able to lift up to 50lbs;
- Able to stand for a full shift;
- Able to sit at a desk and do general office work, which includes periodic sedentary responsibilities;
- Possess manual dexterity to perform repetitive tasks;
- Please note that ALS operates 24/7 and will require day, afternoon, and graveyard shift work including weekends.
