At ALS, we encourage you to dream big.When you join us, you’ll be part of a global team harnessing the power of scientific testing and data-driven insights to build a healthier future.General Accountability:In conjunction with the Laboratory Manager, this position is responsible for providing leadership in the LRMS Department in the areas of production, productivity, safety, staffing, and assist with performance management and employee relations.Specific Responsibilities:
  • Provide daily supervision to staff and assign workloads to ensure that productivity targets are met or exceeded;
  • Oversee staff schedule to ensure adequate coverage in a fiscally responsible manner;
  • In conjunction with the Manager, conduct interviews and onboard new employees according to operational needs;
  • Coordinate and provide training for the team on an as needed;
  • In conjunction with the Manager, complete annual performance reviews for the employees;
  • Maintain an adequate inventory of supplies and consumables to support the operations while ensuring efficiency;
  • Ensure all maintenance and preventative maintenance schedules are followed;
  • Prepare and maintain production reports and statistics to the Laboratory Manager;
  • Maintain ALS quality management system requirements (QMS) for the department;
  • Perform detailed data review, interpretation and processing;
  • Ensure methodologies and accreditation requirements are met and documented;
  • Participate in internal and external audits for the department and ensure timely resolution of any findings;
  • Conduct regular crew talks to discuss safety, quality, process changes, management issues and corporate communications;
  • Proactively review procedures and processes and provides input on their quality and reliability to the laboratory;
  • Liaise with other departments to respond to client enquiries, address production issues and resolve client service concerns;
  • Use correct methods in accordance with the established procedures and schedules while ensuring analytical quality;
  • Observe established safety regulations and comply with all ALS health and safety policies and procedures;
  • Other duties as assigned.
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  • Excellent English communication skills, both written and verbal;
  • Able to effectively handle escalations and time critical issues;
  • Demonstrated judgement, creativity, integrity and the ability to problem solve;
  • Continuous improvement orientation to develop new processes or improve on existing processes;
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly and effectively both internally and externally;

  • Strong customer service focus, interpersonal and organizational skills;
Required Qualifications:
  • Degree in Organic Chemistry or related field;
  • Minimum 6 years of experience in operating and maintaining analytical chemistry instrumentation for a variety of Organic Chemistry methods;
  • Experience working with ISO/IEC 17025 or similar International Standardization systems for laboratory operation;
  • Minimum 3 years of experience leading a team in laboratory setting;
  • Strong computer skills including MS Excel and MS Word;
Physical Demands
  • Able to lift up to 50lbs;
  • Able to stand for a full shift;
  • Able to sit at a desk and do general office work, which includes periodic sedentary responsibilities;
  • Possess manual dexterity to perform repetitive tasks;
  • Please note that ALS operates 24/7 and will require day, afternoon, and graveyard shift work including weekends.
