The OpportunityMcElhanney is looking for a Water Resources Engineer to join our team in Calgary, AB. You’ll be involved in field work, data analysis, design development, and report preparation, with opportunities to grow your technical skills and contribute meaningfully to real-world projects across Alberta.   • Support engineering assessments and designs for water distribution, sanitary collection, and stormwater conveyance networks, natural watercourses, floodplain and flood hazard mapping, hydrologic and hydraulic analysis, statistical analysis, and similar disciplines.
  • Prepare technical drawings, design reports, calculations, and other documentation under the supervision of senior engineers.
  • Participate in field work including site inspections, and construction observation to support design and data collection.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary project teams on civil infrastructure and environmental projects throughout Alberta.
  • Provide project support by taking on project management tasks and coordination activities.
  • Assist with regulatory submissions, permitting documentation, and engagement materials for municipal, provincial, and federal approvals.
What You’ll Bring
  • Bachelor's degree in civil or water resources engineering (or a related field); a postgraduate degree in water resource management is desirable.
  • 3+ years of experience in water resource engineering work and management, preferably in a consulting environment.
  • Registration as a P.Eng. or eligible for registration within six months in Alberta is required.
  • Solid knowledge of water resource engineering theories and methodologies.
  • Proficiency with hydraulic and hydrologic modeling software (e.g., HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS, PCSWMM, InfoWorks, WaterCAD, etc.).
  • Knowledge of statistical analysis in hydrological applications.
  • Strong programming skills (with Python, R, C++) are an asset.
  • Previous experience with AI and machine learning is an asset.
  • Familiarity with ArcGIS and Civil3D is an asset.
What Can We Offer You?The salary range for this position is $80,000 - $110,000 per annum. McElhanney offers fair compensation that is commensurate with the individual’s education, experience, skills, and professional qualifications. The posted base salary/wage range is representative of the required level of qualifications and experience for the position as noted in the job posting. The salary offered will be based on the experience and qualifications of the successful candidate.
