ROLEProvide therapeutic and diagnostic services in respiratory care for patients as prescribed by their most responsible providers.Service provision in all areas of the hospital including ICU, emergency, obstetrics, operating room, Medical/Surgical Units, dialysis, and Chronic Care such as:Cardiopulmonary resuscitationMechanical ventilator support in a team environment; neonatal, paediatric, and adultAirway management including endotracheal intubationTracheostomy tube changes and careAssist in Bronchoscopy proceduresArterial blood gas puncture, line insertion and samplingTherapeutic gas administrationAerosol and humidity therapyPatient evaluationTransport of the high-risk patientPatient educationAttend newborn deliveries, and provide support services to the department of anaesthesiaPerforms the required cardiopulmonary services (e.g. stress tests, holter administration, monitoring and scanning, ambulatory blood pressure monitor application and scanning, pulmonary function tests, home oxygen assessments, etc.) efficiently and effectively for the public in accordance with the department's procedural policies.Demonstrate commitment to the concepts of best practice, continuing quality improvement, and customer service.Responsible for performing a thorough and accurate cardiopulmonary procedure in a caring and professional manner.REQUIRED EDUCATION & CERTIFICATION(S)Successful completion of a recognized respiratory therapy program which includes both didactic teaching and supervised clinical experience.Registered as a Respiratory Therapist with the College of Respiratory Therapy of OntarioCurrent BCLSCurrent ACLSCurrent NRPREQUIRED SKILLS & EXPERIENCE(S)Thorough and up-to-date knowledge of respiratory therapy in both theory and practice.Sound knowledge of all equipment and appropriate skills to operate equipment.Communication skills in dealing with patients, staff members and physicians.Organizational skills to perform required duties effectively and efficientlyRegular and punctual attendance is mandatoryDESIRED SKILLS, EXPERIENCE(S) & EDUCATIONTEACH Certificate Program in Tobacco Cessation (CAMH)Asthma/COPD EducatorCurrent PALSCurrent membership with the Respiratory Therapy Society of OntarioADDITIONAL PERKS AT MAHC
