- To plan, organize, and assign daily tasks to field team members while ensuring all required equipment, materials, and permits are ready for deployment.
- To actively participate in field surveys and sampling, applying standardized engineering methodologies consistently across all data collection activities.
- To validate, review, and secure data by checking accuracy and completeness, implementing daily backup procedures, and maintaining compliance with project‑specific requirements.
- To monitor field performance and protocol adherence, ensuring procedures, quality standards, and engineering best practices are followed at all times.
- To provide guidance, training, and mentorship to team members, fostering a positive, collaborative, and resilient work environment during long hours, repetitive tasks, or remote field conditions.
- To implement and enforce health and safety plans, conduct daily safety briefings, perform hazard assessments, and promote a strong safety culture in the field.
- To communicate progress, risks, and recommendations to project managers, prepare concise summary notes, and contribute to technical engineering reports as required.
- Degree or diploma in Environmental Science, Biology, Ecology, or related field.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in field surveys for herpetofauna and associated habitats (terrestrial environments, wetlands, waterways, hibernaculum, artificial shelters).
- Strong knowledge of herpetology inventory methods for reptiles (snakes, turtles) and amphibians (salamanders, frogs).
- Proven leadership and organizational skills, with the ability to maintain team cohesion and motivation during extended fieldwork in remote areas.
- Familiarity with GPS, data loggers, and relevant software.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to remote locations.
- First Aid and WHMIS certification (or willingness to obtain).
- Bilingual French/English (written and spoken) is an asset.
- Field-based travel across Québec and Ontario; exposure to variable weather, wildlife, and remote terrain for extended periods of time.
- Occasional evening/weekend work aligned with field windows.
- Use of vehicles, boats/ATVs (as applicable), and field equipment with appropriate training and PPE.
