- Performs assessments of resident leisure functioning, strengths and limitations upon admission and as required.
- Develops and implements recreation and leisure programs for individuals and groups according to practice based evidence and current trends.
- Supports the completion of monthly calendars to reflect all domains and function levels to reflect resident’s needs, interests and abilities.
- Assists and evaluates programs or protocols as required to meet person centered goals, needs and operational requirements.
- Assists with admission and orientation of new residents and tenants.
- Reports and documents resident progress, function and program participation.
- Collaborates with interdisciplinary team, resident and family to prepare for pre/post resident care conferences. Attends as required.
- Provides quarterly and annual assessments based on standards of practice and requirements of MDS-RAI and care planning timeframes.
- Motivates and encourages resident participation through initiatives such as Resident Council to ensure resident needs and rights are being maintained and heard.
- Assists with student and volunteer placements, orientation and evaluation when required.
- Actively participates in orientation of new staff, community programs, meetings, committees and educational in-services.
- Maintains a safe environment for residents, family and staff, through: accident prevention, knowledge of emergency procedures and regulations, the safe use of supplies and equipment and reporting when repairs are necessary, and utilizing infection control procedures
- Develops and maintains relationships and promotes Recreation Therapy with external partnerships and agencies to enhance resident programming.
- Performs other related duties as required.
- A two-year Recreation or equivalent Diploma.
- Two year related experience in Long Term Care setting preferred.
- Experience programming for Alzheimer Disease and related Dementia’s is an asset.
- Member or eligibility for British Columbia Therapeutic Recreation Association (BCTRA).
- Valid First Aid Level 1 Certificate with CPR required.
- Serving It Right Certificate.
- Food Safe Level 1 Certificate an asset
- Valid Class 4 (Unrestricted) BC Driver’s License as required.
- All successful applicants must pass the vulnerable sector Criminal Record Check applicable to Provincial guidelines.
- Ability to push, pull, stoop, crouch, lift and carry up to 50 lbs. Must be able to work with cleaners, detergents and other cleaning equipment.
- Ability to read, write and speak English proficiently and understand verbal and written instructions.
- Good interpersonal and organizational skills.
- Intermediate computer skills including Word, Publisher, and Outlook.
