Reports to Head Trades, Facilities and Building Services, within Student Housing and Hospitality Services.Work PerformedInstalls, verifies, and maintains function of Access Control System, including mechanical and electrified locking and opening hardware, integration to 12/24 volt power supplies, relay boards, and Access Control System equipment.Prepares hardware for installation and provides necessary programming for the successful functioning of physical access control on campus.Installs, terminates, verifies, and maintains cabling continuity at door frames and hardware, power supplies, and Access Control equipment.Responds, investigates, diagnoses, and resolves functional deficiencies with physical access control.Programs, verifies, and maintains function of Systems infrastructure including operational software, equipment programming tools, wireless interface devices, and related cabling.Responds to emergency service calls, both during and outside normal working hours.Performs scheduled and service-response maintenance of physical access control to evaluate and verify adherence to accepted performance levels.Provides technical expertise and user training on physical access control operation to University faculty/staff.Maintains working knowledge of all technical aspects of physical access control.Maintains contemporary knowledge of industry standards.Ensures work is performed in compliance with UBC Technical Guidelines and applicable Building and Fire Codes.Consequence of Error/Judgement
Determines how best to complete installation, repair, and maintenance work based on technical knowledge of the field, industry standards, UBC Technical Guidelines, departmental guidelines and policies; inappropriate decisions could result in physical access control malfunction causing the loss of valuable equipment, data, and intellectual property, interruption in the operation of University departments, delay and increased costs.Supervision Received

Monitors and checks the work of trainees and apprentices as required.Minimum Qualifications
A trade qualification for Locksmith and/or Security Systems Technician, valid or eligible for Security Worker License, valid BC driver’s license and a minimum five years of related experience or an equivalent combination of training and experience.- Willingness to respect diverse perspectives, including perspectives in conflict with one’s own- Demonstrates a commitment to enhancing one’s own awareness, knowledge, and skills related to equity, diversity, and inclusionPreferred QualificationsTrade Certification for Security Alarm Installer, Valid or Eligible for Security Worker License.
