As a Canada’s Best Employers 2024, we are committed to having an accessible, diverse, inclusive, and barrier-free work environment.The Driver role is a client facing job that is responsible for providing transportation to clients for medical appointments, social outings, compassionate visits, shopping, day programs.In this role, you will:Transport older adults, disabled and/or physically/cognitively impaired clients (and their personal companions/attendants, as required) from pick-up point to various appointments and return.Provide assistance to clients to onboard/de-board the vehicle including those clients utilizing mobility devices (i.e., pushing/maneuvering wheelchairs, folding walkers and safely stowing during trip as needed).Operate, store and secure a variety of mobility equipment devices such as wheelchairs and walkers while transporting clients and/or follow safe food handling and transportation requirements.Operate the vehicle safely and reports any vehicle and/or radio maintenance concerns/problems/needs.Report any observed or potential occupational health and safety hazards for workers or clients.Report incidents involving clients immediately.Maintain and safeguard log books (and any documents or equipment that contains personal health information) for seamless communication to supervisors and/or authorities if required.Conduct daily safety checks on vehicle(s) in accordance with guidelines and requirements.Report any maintenance/repairs that may occur during the workday and may be required to take vehicles to scheduled repairs and maintenance appointments.Follow all procedures and documenting any incidents, accidents and/or injuries.Follow all applicable road safety and vehicle operation laws, guidelines and practices.What we are looking for:Minimum of 1-2 years of experience and a 1-2 year college diploma or post-secondary certification or an equivalent combination of education and experience.Must be 25 years of age or older to drive CRC vehicles.Valid driver's license and a clean driver's abstract.Basic computer skills or knowledge (Microsoft Office Suite).Ability to apply relevant municipal road safety legislation.Ability to route plan and navigate various road options using GPS systems, maps, etc., to ensure timely deliveries and ensuring smooth and safe rides.Ability to apply standard methods, and select amongst options to resolve routine problems.Ability to communicate and influence by clarifying policies, processes, and services effectively.Ability to demonstrate compassion, empathy and understanding for individuals with differing cognitive and physical abilities.Requires knowledge of safe transport practices, reporting incidents, equipment transport, etc.Working Conditions :Occasional requirement to lift very heavy objects (e.g., greater than 20kg) in order to perform the requirements of the role.Regular requirement for prolonged sitting in a restricted position with infrequent breaks in order to perform the requirements of the role.Occasional requirement for fine motor skills to perform the requirements of the roleAs we work with and support people (managers, colleagues, beneficiaries/ customers, volunteers, donors and external partners) and communities in Canada and around the world, applicants whose first language is not English may be required to perform the responsibilities of the role in English.Eligibility to work in Canada: At this time, we welcome applications from candidates eligible to work in Canada.
