Job Description:Smith Steel & Fabrication has been hand-building custom steel tanks and fabricated structures from Atwood, Ontario for nearly 50 years. No two projects are alike here - our team designs and builds everything from bulk storage tanks and industrial flare stacks to one-of-a-kind custom fabrications, all made to client specification. In January 2026, Smith Steel became part of Tri-Mach Group Inc., bringing expanded resources and capabilities to a shop that already had deep craft and a loyal customer base. It's an exciting time to join.As our Mechanical Designer, you'll own the design process end-to-end - from early concept through approved shop drawings - across a genuinely varied product mix. You'll work closely with Project Managers and shop personnel on custom tanks, structures, and one-off fabrications that require creative problem-solving, not just template execution. If you're the kind of designer who likes knowing a project is truly yours from start to finish, this role is built for you.Smith Steel & Fabrication's shop is located in Atwood Ontario, (just outside of Listowel)The Engineering Office is Located in Elmira (within the Tri-Mach Group Inc. head office) in which the role will work out of primarily.Requirements:KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Lead the design of steel tanks, structures, and custom fabricated products from concept through detailed shop drawings
Collaborate with Project Managers to ensure designs accurately reflect project scope and client requirements
Own the research, design and test of product or product subsystem development utilizing CAD and analysis tools.
Complete SolidWorks 3D models and produce full 2D drawing packages
Build bills of materials in the ERP system to support procurement and production planning
Work with sales to develop concepts and define project scope for new opportunities
Coordinate with purchasing to source materials from qualified vendors
Support technical documentation and product information packages as needed
