As a Senior Relationship Officer you will be responsible for managing the end-to-end relationship with third party business partners including the responsibility to liquidate security, NPNA, and write offs to optimize business results and team results continually achieve and exceed targeted portfolio performance. You’ll evaluate the effectiveness of assigned business partners’ performance to provide them with comprehensive coaching and development plans, while anticipating and adapting to changes in new market conditions and/or legislations. You’ll actively share and track as per manager’s request and champion best practices with the Recovery Operations team to promote consistency in benchmarking portfolio and business partner performance, and continually improve departmental practices with the goal to maximize the return on investment through the recovery of secured and unsecured debt.This is a regular full time role with a schedule of 37.5 hours each week between Monday to Friday 8 a.m. - 9 p.m.At CIBC we enable the work environment most optimal for you to thrive in your role. You’ll have the flexibility to manage your work activities within a hybrid work arrangement where you’ll spend 1-3 days per week on-site, while other days will be remote.How You’ll Succeed
  • Performance Management - Support the achievement of Recovery Operations business objectives and portfolio targets through extensive and effective analysis, interpretation and comprehension of various reports and financial data, to influence Business Partners’ performance, while minimizing financial loss and/or risk to CIBC. Set clear performance expectations, monitor progress and provide business partners with feedback and direction to optimize business results and team results and promote efficiency and timely account resolution.
  • Escalation Management - Respond to extremely complex and/or sensitive client escalations and Media escalations, ensuring that CIBC’s assets are protected while taking into consideration reputational & legal risks. Provide an accurate synopsis to the management team to assist in the identification of root causes and recommend changes to processes to avoid reoccurrence. Review, analyze and make decisions regarding acceptance or decline of customer settlement proposals as presented by the business partner to mitigate additional financial loss to CIBC, and where possible, focus on the retention of the client relationship.
  • Subject Matter Expert - Communicate of Provincial Legislations impacting legal enforcement changes within CIBC. Conduct data mining and develop ad hoc reports and presentations to Senior Management, CIBC Risk and Product Partners. Chair monthly operational meetings with senior leaders (such as CEO’s, VP’s or Directors of Law Firms and Collection Agencies) to discuss portfolio results, challenges, issues and/or action plans with the objective of increasing Business Partners’ contributions and achieving sustainable, repeatable financial results. Participate in the request for proposal (RFP) process and be responsible for reviewing and evaluating vendor responses to award multi-million dollar contracts. Conduct presentations on recovery performance using scorecards, market trends and industry standards which often drive the creation of training, updating of directives and user guides to appeal to all levels of staff.
  • Risk Management – Comply with all applicable CIBC and line of business policies, standards, guidelines and controls. Maintain CIBC’s professional image and Code of Conduct. Maintain confidentiality and security standards. Identify potential financial, legal, reputational risks and engage Senior Management, Legal and Risk teams to find solutions to escalations that pose substantial impacts to CIBC. Develop and strengthen strategic relationships with external business partners to leverage their expertise to improve recovery processes.
  • Business Partner Relationships – Develop and strengthen strategic relationships with business partners to become a unified front in the recovery process. Leverage networks and improve knowledge of collection, governance, audit and compliance practices to effectively adapt recovery strategies in response to audit findings, changes in market conditions and/or legislations. Leverage and share best practices (i.e. nonproprietary information) and specialized knowledge with business partners and Recovery Operations to increase business partner performance and mitigate risks. Represent the business unit as a subject matter expert in inter-departmental policy and procedures implementation, meetings, and initiatives which include but are not limited to Recovery collection system enhancements led by the Collections Technology Group.
Who You Are
  • You can demonstrate experience in policies, procedures and approaches related to Insolvency operations and have familiarity with the Bankruptcy and Insolvency Act. It’s an asset to have experience in dealing with Insolvency Trustees and external 3rd party vendors and an advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel.
