(employee will be working with or have access to children or vulnerable adults and requires a Criminal Record Check)YesJob DescriptionIn accordance with the Vision, Purpose, and Values, and strategic direction of the Vancouver Island Health Authority, (Island Health) staff and patient safety is a priority and a responsibility shared by everyone; as such, the requirement to continuously improve quality and safety is inherent in all aspects of this position.Under the direction of the Program Coordinator, responsible for the integration of children and youth with special needs into age appropriate programs by collaborating with families and community agencies.Travel may be a requirement of this position. Transportation arrangements must meet the operational requirements of Island Health in accordance with the service assignment.QUALIFICATIONS:Education, Training And ExperienceBachelor's Degree in Child and Youth Care, Early Childhood Education, Special Education, or related field. Five years experience with children in child care settings, with three of those years being with special needs children, and experience working in community based licensed child care service, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Working knowledge of legislation or policies affecting childcare settings.Valid Class 5 driver's license.Skills And Abilities
  • Ability to negotiate and mediate in decisions regarding support and funding.
  • Ability to identify childcare plans for children with special needs and to identify the extra supports required in a childcare setting.
