- Lead, mentor, and develop a team of underwriters, fostering a culture of performance, accountability, and service excellence.
- Ensure underwriting practices align with corporate guidelines, risk appetite, and profitability targets.
- Monitor and improve service levels to deliver a consistent and high-quality broker experience.
- Identify opportunities to enhance workflows and streamline underwriting processes.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support operational improvements and national initiatives.
- Champion change management efforts, promoting adaptability and innovation within the team.
- Utilize data and analytics to track performance, identify trends, and support decision-making.
- Participate in talent planning activities including recruitment, development, performance management, and compensation recommendations.
- Provide clear and timely communication on procedural changes, underwriting direction, and team goals.
- Support capacity planning and resource allocation by forecasting workload demands and building contingency plans.
- Occasional travel within Canada may be required for planning meetings or team engagement sessions.
- Post-secondary education or equivalent insurance experience; CIP or working toward designation preferred.
- 7+ years of underwriting experience in personal lines insurance (home and auto); multi-provincial experience is an asset.
- Prior leadership or coaching experience, with a demonstrated ability to develop and inspire others.
- Understanding of contact center/service-focused environments.
- Commitment to delivering sound underwriting decisions while supporting excellent customer and broker service.
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills with the ability to collaborate across functions and levels.
- Proven problem-solving abilities and comfort managing complex situations or escalations.
- Ability to interpret and leverage data to inform strategy and improve performance outcomes.
- Experience managing performance reviews, compensation input, and team development planning.
